Is there any benefits or quest related stuff to defeating it ? I just went by and it seemed friendly so I did not bother.

No idea I also just went by it, although it’s a relatively hard fight I guess so it may drop something cool. But no quest for sure

it doesn't drop anything particularly useful, killing it just stops the lava bursts.

You can get inspiration by killing it for some backgrounds, but that's it. Drop wise, it's only some vendor gems and exp.

It makes the lava wave, so you cannot go safe through it with him alive. Not a specially tough one anyway. And i dont remember any special reward behind neither. I explored the area thoroughly, i tried hard even go under the main platform, whici was not possible even with Misty Steps, i surrounded the whole place jumping all around the limits, and nothing noteworthy was found. The only thing you need to take for the quest is in the chest that you reach with two jumps.

Do it for the challenge and the XP. No meaningful drops, but at least a marginally tactical fight with its specific passives... No story impact at all, which is a bit of a shame

The fight is considerably easier if you shoot it will arrows of Illmater and/or chill Touch, as they stop it healing.

I just met the elemental...tried fighting it without a chance as it heals every single turn. How can you kill it? If it starts his turn in lava, it will regain full health...I tried sleet storm....I attacked...no chance.

I loaded my save and just used the fly spell to fly to the other side, pick the lock and take the amulet.

there was an inspiration unlock for one of my toons. "the floor is lava" is what it was called. cant remember which follower got it though

Just double checked. it was Karlach that unlocked the inspiration perk. "The Floor is Lava" defeat the lava elemental in the lava lake. I gave Karlach and Lae'zel potions of speed and got very lucky with a high spell slot cast of Guiding Bolt from Shadowheart scoring a heavy crit and dropped it in one turn. I got very lucky on damage rolls.

There is no real challenge with it if you use a basic spell on it to prevent it from healing, otherwise it's probably harder than anything else in the chapter if you choose not to use this particular spell.
