Linux and local CO OP
Did anyone try? I want to know your success stories.
Also, Steam or GOG version?

Sorry,. no direct Linux experience to share, but...

I played some local COOP with my daughter ... I tried Remote Play with my Steam Deck from my Desktop PC and the game ran fine but I couldn't get two controllers to work at the same time (one wired XB360 controller, and one bluetooth Xbox one controller...

I plugged my laptop straight into the TV instead, and managed to get both controllers working quickly.

To be honest, though, it's not great. It's hard to appreciate how important the wide aspect ratio is for 3d gaming until you try to play a 3d game on a 8:9 ratio half-screen! I felt disoriented... I do intend to keep playing, though, as my daughter really enjoys playing with me and I don't mind exploring slowly together.

It runs well enough on Linux, can't imagine split screen would make that much of a difference.
I'd recomend steam simply because it's easier ;)

You could always head over and ask on https://www.gamingonlinux.com/ for more opinions :)

Thanks both.

The reason I want GoG @guppy, is that I do not want the steam DRM, I will not own nothing and be happy about it ;)

Will check the site, ty.

I've been playing split screen coop for 30hours by now :

- couch coop with :
-- 2 xbox controllers
-- Pop!OS (linux),
-- Steam package
-- 1980*1080p,
-- 40-60 fps with a Ryzen9 7940HS (apu); 32Gb ram (5600MT, 8gb dedicated to the ipu),
-- works OOTB (proton experimental),
-- select DX11 instead of Vulkan - I had graphic artefacts on vulkan and I chose not to pre-cache shaders after encountering artefacts).
-- Skip the launcher with the command line --skip-launcher after you set Directx11 as renderer for your next launches of the game.

Negative things regarding this split screen though :

- No merging screen when you are in the same location (it's a static split screen) (not like in D:OS)
- Conversations: If both of you engage a conversation with different NPCs, you'll got some problem hearing your NPC or hearing the other (depend on the order of who started an audioline first). You can merge the conversation (hear) to fullscreen if you join the other player's conversation.
- I lose some FPS compared to solo fullscreen - Maybe 10% less fps due to the fact the game has to render 2 players.
- Compared to solo I lose 1/3 of what would be my fullscreen in split-screen on a classic 16:9 108cm-diag screen. (it's vertical split)

=> You might want to upgrade to an ultra wide screen if you don't want lose in width.

=> I wish, for that game, that I was on windows so that I could merge 2 screens in 1 and each players could have his own screen fullsized. Try TwinView (Nvidia, for AMD find the equivalent) on windows if you can dual boot because the solution does not exist on Linux without tinkering with xandr yet. Unless you know a package that would help without coding into the shell or whatever.

=> Maybe Larian could implement this merging screens into one option in the game directly for dual screen owners that want to play couch without losing 30% of the view. Or add the horizontal split screen option which could be better on classic screens.

I actually created a GPU passthrough VM for this, and the audio thing with 2 convos is also present in windows.
Also found out that the loading times on Windows are better than on Linux(like a ton), which is a first for me.
Seems this game doesn't play nice with Linux, eventhough I am using the DX11.

Yeah, creating a windows VM could be a solution but, I wished it was as easy as TwinView, but with a package for linux, to do so. If you can release a tutorial for the 2 screens in one with that VM, don't hesitate to post it on reddit or here maybe?

For my part, Linux runs extremely fine (loading is no problem, and graphics run fine with DX11. The reduced loading times may come from my NVME (WD BLACK SN850X, so I dunno.

On protonDb, BG3's compatibility is stated as "gold", but most users can run it flawlessly on Linux and some commentaries specify that the game runs on par on linux and windows.

Here is your tut: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTWf5D092VY

I changed the end script to not echo that efi buffer (added a comment char infront) or else it would flicker. It is easy.

On the gold part: Yeah I noticed that I even have problem playing games that would previously run. That is probabvly a Ubuntu thing, I have been planning to move back to debian for a while now. But first I gotta check if all my deep learning stuff works on that.

Thanks for the tip, mate!
I'll try that at work so I'll be able to use my brain for once ;).
Sorry I can't reward you, I gave all my clowns to StarField's whites knights.

I do not care about rewards, sharing is caring, that is enough for me. It was actually quite simple. I put doing that off for years (I knew it existed, saw youtubes about it), until I saw this video.
Installing windows takes so terribly long -.-
