Does my High Elf Sorcerer's Firebolt use Int or Cha?
So if I start a High Elf Sorcerer will his racial Fire Bolt use my Int or Cha? If it is Int then I would be better off taking light or some such racial that doesn't require a skill check, but I would prefer to take Firebolt due to the limited nature of cantrips he will get as a sorcerer.

The High Elf Cantrip uses intelligence even if that character is a sorcerer

Oh wait my bad the cantrip might be Int based on that build, all other spells would be charisma .

In the book the stat is intelligence no matter what your actual casting stat is. Would need testing in game.

If you selected the cantrip from your options under High Elf in character creation, then it scales off intelligence. You can see this to be true by hovering over the cantrip and it’ll say INT on the bottom right.

Edit: in the future, unless you’re playing a wizard, pick a support cantrip that doesn’t scale off your stats, like Bladeward

Well, that sucks. I guess I need to take a non-offense cantrip for racial and then use my sorcerer cantrip on firebolt. Firebolt is too important to the sorcerer build to not have it using the correct ability score.

Thank you all for the prompt replies!

Found it:
Fire Bolt is a spell that can be used by High Elves and Half-Elves who have Moon Elf or Sun Elf Descent. These D&D races can learn one cantrip spell from the list of Wizard spells. Their spell attack modifier would be their Intelligence modifier plus their Proficiency bonus.

Withers can help with that. Reliably.

Minor illusion will almost always be a charisma check, so it's probably your best cantrip choice for a charisma based build.

I am ending up taking minor illusion since it is useful to cluster enemies for Fireball or Glyph of Warding. I will take Firebolt as a Sorc.

Good News though...you can start with an 8 int on your sorc and grab a +20 int circlet at the goblin camp area, and have no problems casting firebolt, and you put ZERO points in intel. So you would be rocking a 20 int before you even level up charisma to 20.

You may also want to check out 5e mechanics on "Super Fire Bolt" which stacks several skills to make firebolt hit for 4x damage. Not sure if BG3 allows it but in PnP, you can make firebolt hit like a truck.
