No. Scrolls are one use. Use scrolls for Wizard to learn new spells.

I think he meant that with the over-abundance of both gold and scrolls in the game there's seldom any benefit in having an actual wizard instead of just using the scroll. And he's not wrong.

Why not both? I'm pretty sure a spell cast from a scroll has a fixed dc. Let the wizard cast the good stuff.

Don't scrolls always use INT? So a Wizard\EK will just use scrolls better.

i do like how scrolls aren't limited to spellcasters. my fighter is perfectly able to use scrolls without any issue whatsoever.

In Pathfinder at least, Scrolls are only useful for people who can cast those spells anyways.

Scrolls useable by everyone is a great change made by the game. In tabletop scrolls are only readable by a caster who has the spell on their spell list.

Ok but hear me out. We can brew potions, why can we not scribe scrolls? I wanna stock up on Fireballs!

They do, but you don't use them for spells where enemies need to roll saves. You use them for stuff where they don't - or for buffing your party.

I love having the wizard because I generally find spells more interesting than melee in most games. But on my playthrough now, I've gone without a wizard or sorceror. On my first Tactician playthrough, the wizard would get targeted heavily and was usually dead in the first 2 rounds. At least on Tactician, I think they are too squishy to be really valuable unfortunately.

I don't know about 2e but in 1e everyone can cast scrolls. It's part of the reason why casters are so weak. Having one char in a party who has UMD (though really everyone should have UMD as it is the most powerful skill) invalidates entire classes in pathfinder.

It's even worse in the actual rulesets as the UMD skill doesn't just let anyone cast from scrolls, they can mimic anything about any class. So technically rules as written you have a staff that lets you cast a couple of free spells per day if you have those spells on your spell list then a fighter can just walk up, UMD on it, then have those spells.

Wizards literally use scrolls to learn new spells, primarily ones they can learn as wizards. So they can effectively learn every spell in the game

No. They can only learn spells on the Wiz/Sorc spelllist. By and large it has the worst spells.

Wizard spell list has Fireball.

Your argument is invalid.
Agreed, melee classes deal more damage and scrolls is very easy to buy/find anyway.

Gale would like to disagree, especially with how busted a grease fire combo can be
