I believe you can give it to Esther without immediate consequences (apart from it hatching, obviously).
Unfortunately, you never see the kid. Like a lot of things, BG3 handles it in exposition with no accompanying visuals, which is kind of annoying, but whatchagonnado.
The only 'condition' needed for gith eggs to hatch is to be on the material plane, where time flows normally. The creche is built to protect them, and so the gith warriors that are forced to stay on the material plane to guard them will have a safe place to live. The only thing the Githyanki do different is mental conditioning of the unborn infant to ensure loyalty >.>
