Why is there no homophobia?
You can steal in BG3. There's adultery in BG3. There's animal cruelty in BG3. You can torture/mutilate people in BG3. You can murder people in BG3. There's racism in BG3. I don't remember if there's sexism in BG3... (somebody chime in if you know).

But there's no homophobia? No homophobic NPCs. No homophobic dialogue choices.

Surely, torture and murder is way worse than homophobia? Surely, there are 'evil' characters in the Forgotten Realms who are homophobic?

"Surely"..."Why can't I be homophobic and racist in the video game like I am on twitter?" Is all I read.

Don't know why you guys try so hard to debunk, and refute the anti-woke arguments. They just ignore, or play dumb when you make salient, or even irrefutable points. You are educating brick walls.

Yea, everyone should be fighting for your right to be a homophobe.

When the enemies in the final fight take ther turn it's an eternity until I get to do something...
Also it is pretty funny to watch them make themselves look like idiots by playing dumb. (oh dear gods I hope they're just pretending)

There are species-isms Dwarf/Elf or Gnome/Goblin. The only 'established' part of lore that has prejudices. Homosexuality has no 1 to 1 comparison.

Well apologies I don't think anyone speaks for the "world". Yes there are plenty of bigots of all shades and demeanors across cultures.

No need to apologize, but Im not speaking for the world, Greenwood is. Also, in another response, I said that bigotry probably isnt the same as our world. So not sure why youd assume I meant that much.
Im kinda confused by your responses, cause theyre going directly against what I have said, and quoted Greenwood on.
Bigotry exists at a local level, this includes bigotry towards " “different” or “unusual” sexuality", that people in that area wouldnt be accepting of.
You can always reach out to Greenwood to have him clarify the quote though, he is pretty responsive, and Ive gotten more than a few replies from him. Very cool dude.

To further accentuate the point. and I quote my above posting. YOU choose the term 'different' or 'unusual' Ed Greenwood does not.

So it [homosexuality] has always been there, and is an integral part of the Realms. With that said, I've never met a gamer yet who doesn't tinker with every adventure to "make it their own" at their own gaming table, so if trans, LGBT, or sexual matters at all don't suit your tastes and needs in your gaming sessions, leave it out or change it.

Which is to say, no to the advance or avoid the situation entirely, in the BG game for consenting adults. Alternate hosting sites, not official, you also have the option to erase all homosexuality. (Users beware of malware)
People have the choice, to be the bigot in way they want.

Local bigotry, and fear of the unknown commonly exists in literary tropes UNTIL you get to know the person or new thing.

First of all, i’m just answering the Op for all the other viewers and not him. In another theead he already gave proof that whatever he think is law for him and to disagree with the golden boy is to be wrong by default.

That said.

The cultural answer: homophobia is a Christian invention mostly.

The official answer: https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Gender_and_sex

I, personally, hate the pronouns ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, if there’s no reasonable context behind (like a collective consciousness or modrons calling themselves us), but for WotC it’s an official thing and liking or not it’s how it is.

"As to sexual attitudes in the Realms, there is indeed local prejudice against individuals who have “different” or “unusual” sexuality—bigotry and a dislike of change and “what’s not usual” is everywhere and is (unfortunately) part of being human."

Nope.. He chose those terms. This is the whole quote from him. Feel like youre trolling.

Reading comprehension my friend.

Homophobia rarely comes from anywhere other than religion or religiously influenced politics. Without a religion who cares about it, there's no reason for people to care about it unless it's nobles wanting heirs and even then I'm sure there's magical solutions to have kids.

Give it 15 or so years and all that other stuff you mentioned probably will be banned from video games.

You can thank the woke mob and government bureaucrats for that when it happens

As a member of the woke mob (such kind words, darling!) I can think of two reasons:

1. It is quite the sensitive topic to some, so it is wise to avoid it altogether. Of course, the game was not shy to incorporate darker themes but it is understandable if you do not want to hit all the sensitive issues in the world.

2. It is also a matter of worldbuilding. I can totally imagine a society where that's not an issue.

I do not think the other topics will ever be 'banned' from games. It all depends on the genre and the game.

We're locking this thread as it has devolved into non-productive argument. Thanks for your understanding.
