Can't Launch Toolkit
I tried to launch the toolkit today, I set the default path to the Steam default path and added a folder called 'Editor' (because it wouldn't let me do otherwise). Then, after a few seconds, it just stops and the launch button reappears.

When I try launching again, the launcher window appears for a few seconds, then it reverts again.

You need to download and install 2 separate items, Toolkit itself from the Steam (library >> tools) and similarly named but separate item BG3 Toolkit Data DLC (this will give you the data files for the toolkit to work on) from bg3 steam store page.

Except this doesn't work, as I've installed both and still have no toolkit folder...

Be glad you don't have to put yourself through that...
The alleged "help" for mods is a joke...
You do get an overview of what is for what.
But if you don't have any help with where to set which hook or flag and when AND you're not experienced in mods, you should be extremely patient AND you should make your own Excel list of the combinations you've already tried.
Because you can easily plan for 30+ variants or crashes for a simple subclass until you've figured out what to set where, when and how, and even then you've only just managed to create a new subclass.
Not to mention the other skills and everything!
No, the mod tool is so unstable that it's a small miracle if you can work on a mod within half an hour without at least 10+ crashes, and even then you should be prepared for the test to fail 90% of the time.
Of course you don't get any information about why something doesn't work. Therefore, I would stay away from it and either play the game as it is or hope that someone else who can mod comes up with something similar.
But as a beginner modder, you're more likely to lose your temper before you can even manage to create a halfway decent mod and delete or smash everything yourself in anger!

I am having the same issue and I don't know about you but following that page has not solved anything for me just wasted my time with deleting thing and redownloading them...
you just need to wait to install it, it took like 10 minutes for the DLC to install before it actually works, from there type in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Baldurs Gate 3\Data and you should be fine
Took 10 minutes for the DLC to install and it took you 7 months to replay to this? You seem slower.
