Is there a way to bring back shovel after you dismiss him?
My character is a sorcerer, and I did the mission where you find shovel, but I didn’t really need him at the time so I just dismissed him but now I don’t really see him anywhere in my inventory and I’m currently around act 2 so is there a way I can bring him back or I pretty much just lose him forever

Theres a couple ways to unlock the spell permanently, mainly just talk to it or learn the scroll with a wizard

If you didnt do either of these, Shovel's gone for good.

There are multiple ways, but you have to do them before dismissing her.

Press K to bring up your skill/spell list and see if the option is there. If not, you'll have to reload or spawn the scroll in again.

If you use the script extender, the code to spawn the scroll is:

TemplateAddTo("6b881dce-b87f-4c3c-aa98-7ba4b07c009b", GetHostCharacter(), 1)

Nope, he's gone. Afaik, the only way to get him permanently is to summon him in the location where you find the scroll, and before interacting with the magic mirror. Its sort of a "small sidequests". And, of course, you need to be a wizard/sorcerer/warlock. You could also learn the spell from the scroll itself before using it. If you've summoned him after that, he's gone.

How do you use the script extender?

shovel can be a little bugged up. If you don't get the spell when you should have, save. Then talk to it again on another character. Then swap back to the spell caster and it will usually recognize that you are capable and grant you the summon spell. Wizard can learn the scroll outright. Warlock and sorcerer can be granted the spell. I dunno about other classes like bard etc.

Also, as a sorcerer, be careful. If you are a storm sorcerer or (as I recently found out) a wild magic sorcerer, Shovel will be afraid of your magic and won't offer the dialogue necessary to become a permanent summon.

Basically, if you have a wizard in your party (Gale or someone else), the safe thing to do is to have that character be the one to summon Shovel and get her as a permanent summon. (Or just to transcribe the scroll into the wizard's spellbook, but that's not as good because it takes up one of your memorized spells.

First you have to get it - either by downloading it yourself or extracting it from the BG3 Mod Manager (it's in the tools menu).

https://github.com/Norbyte/bg3se/releases/tag/updater-20240430

Then you make sure the console is enabled. A second window should open when you launch the game.

Switch to the console window, press enter, copy and paste the line, press enter.

In my last playthrough I forgot to summon Shovel, did the mirror, went my merry way, then hours later remembered and went back to the cellar and used the scroll. Still got the dialogue, still got the permanent ability to summon Shovel.

Tl,dr: data point of one but apparently you can do the mirror first and still get Shovel

Shovel can help or hinder with the mirror, but is otherwise unrelated.

Not quite unrelated. I think you have to be in the room beyond the mirror with Shovel in order to get the correct dialogue.
