Road to baldurs gate early

Is it true that if you try to take the road to baldurs gate before finishing th shadow lands main quests that you get teleported to the tower dungeon without apparent explanation.

It's insinuated you walked into the gigantic encampment and got captured and thrown in jail, I do believe there is a cutscene for the first time, but if you do it again it just insta-ports you. It's been a while since I've not only played but done that.

OT - Plot wise, that should also trigger repopulating Moonrise with Absolutists.

There is, in fact, an explanation: you got captured by the giant army you tried to sneak past.
