You typically get one 'free' object interaciton per turn, which you could use to pick something up, draw a weapon, sheathe a weapon, open or close a door, etc. If you wanted to make a second object interaction in the same turn, that costs you your whole action.
An exception to those rules is that equipping or un-equipping a shield is a full action, and equipping or removing armor can take far longer (e.g. ten minutes for heavy armor). Also, using *magical* objects like potions almost always isn't covered by that, but instead falls under activating a magic item as a full action.
it is one of the strongest debuffs you can use against most martial enemies that can be disarmed, and even if they werent, picking them up after disarming them is free as noted above
