You need two Light weapons to dual wield normally.
At lv4 you can take dual wielder feat that'll allow you to use any weapon that's not heavy.

I assume they have the dual-wielder feat since they said so (sort of)

Dual weapon fighting style and the feat are two different things.

The fighting style lets you get your damage bonus on the offhand, but both weapons need to be light. (i.e. two daggers, light hammers, scimitars, etc.)

The feat lets you use two single handed weapons of any size (i.e. two rapiers, maces, longswords, etc)

The fighting style is called Two Weapon Fighting though, not Dual Weapon Fighting. But that, and lack of an ability to comprehend tooltips is probably the issue

You can continue assuming, but I suggest you read what they wrote.

They have dual wielding fighting style, which only adds proficiency to off-hand weapon attacks. They still require Light weapons to do so.
- Shortswords
- Scimitar
- Dagger
- Light Hamer
- etc.

To wield weapon that's not Light, they need a feat at lv4 named "Dual Wielder".

TrollLander, If you have the Dual Wielder feat, then you can use Two-Weapon Fighting even if your weapons aren't Light. You still cannot dual-wield Heavy weapons however.

Perhaps as you say, you are bugged from a couple mod conflicts, that is your bad.

That's called Two Weapon Fighting style though

The fighting style gives a bonus to damage and attack rolls for dual wielding. But it doesn't allow you to dual wield any weapon that isn't light. Once you select the feat Dual Weapon Fighting you can dual wield any weapon capable of being used in one hand. But at the disadvantage of the weapons will do slightly less damage.
Did you try click and dragging the weapon into the shield slot?

Before you guys bite each others throats even further...

Let the OP tell you, what he actually meant with

Did you mean the Feat "Dual Wielder" ( https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Dual_Wielder )
OR the Fighting Style "Two-Weapon Fighting" ( https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Two-Weapon_Fighting )

Because only the Feat let's you... well, wield two weapons, that are not light weapons (I mean it's kinda in the description...)

Two-Weapon Fighting style adds your proficiency bonus to your off-hand weapon.
You can dual wield any weapon that has the "Light" tag.

At class level 4, you get to choose a Feat.
Dual Wielder feat allows you to dual wield any weapon that doesn't have the "Heavy" tag, so you no longer are limited to"Light" weapons.

You can mark this post as answered so people can stop arguing over it.
