3 gem stone door - trials of Shar bug

At the end of the trials of Shar after you make your way the the platform near the ancient altar you have to put 3 gems into the alter at the bottom. I have the 3 gems, but when i add them, even though it says success, it will only show 1 gem in the alter and the stone door remains locked. I cannot progress any further.

i can't use knock spell as i have no wizards in my party

Was stuck at the same point, but I threw a Smokebomb at the door and it magically unlocked.
