There are dyes to change colors. You can find or buy those.
If you are talking about transforming it into a different armor, no. You'll have to find mods that allow you to do that.
Personally I don't understand why, but I'm accustom to the progression of armor in RPGs so it never really bothers me.

Not yet, likely something planned in the future however. But there are likey Mods to make it happen and Modding is rather easy.

Honestly, if you don't like the look I'd recommend find a Clothing Set you like and then just have that Toggled to always show. If you remove all Camp Clothes and Underwear (so you're naked) you will still get the Benifits of Equiped Armor

I suggest you to use : Transmog Enhanced :)

It's pretty cool, it adds 2 new items : one to change the appearance, one to reset the appearance :)
