Unless one or both are using Mods. Then all bets are off.
If you're out of resources, you should able to buy as many as you like, if you rent the room in the elfsong tavern.
Once you start the final push to the Brain, it is all Red-Zone. There are a couple of early Restoration points. And there are one or two Potions that will do it. But no normal Long Rests are available.
Ah well. Can only report it to Larian Studios and hope for a quick fix. Multiplayer in BG3 has always been a bit touchy. So it is probably something simple.
I am assuming here that you both have a legit copy of BG3 and are not trying to skirt around the single user limit.

Definitely legit copies, both bought 2 separate copies of the game through steam and played through a few multiplayer games. Definitely joined in act 3 upper city last night, pre-patch with no issues haha You're not wrong on the bugginess, it adds a unique extra challenge to multiplayer honor modes. We almost lost the game to a bug once already. I've reported it, I'm sure their workload is always higher after a patch release but I'll update on a solution/dice status when they do

I wish you the best of luck and hope they have a solution quickly with a Hotfix! :)

Honour mode, can't go back in saves.
Edit: We were in a red zone (start of Act 3 Astral Prism fight), he did the fight on his own, took ANOTHER long rest, and then I was able to enter the game.
