How do I play without updating?

I bought the game in January so I never had to update it until now. I play with cosmetic mods and some of them use script extender so I don't want to download the patch until the mods are updated but Steam doesn't let me play if I don't update. What can I do? Sorry if this is an obvious question, I'm a console player and I only (practically) play bg3 in my PC so I don't know how Steam works. And also sorry for my bad English, it's not my first language

The update just dropped, I'd say just wait. You probably won't have to wait that long since the game is very active.

you could set the game to only update if it is started through steam and then launch the game directly from the game Folder without using steam

well if you already initiated the update then of course it would, you can't launch a game during a running update and it would also risk data corruption

you have to let it finish the update or uninstall/reinstall the game
