Dismissing a recruited companion feature in patch 6

From the patch notes
"You can now dismiss a recruited companion from your party while speaking to the companion you want to replace them with."

Does this work for anyone? Whenever I try the narrator says "Your companion is otherwise engaged. You will need to dismiss them at a more convenient moment."

I've long rested a couple times and I have no mods installed.

Try disabling mods and verifying the cache. Fixed it for me.
