Save game compatible or start over?
Assuming with this much changes I just lost my save file unless I want to play in offline mode correct?

Was about halfway through my first game..

No, the patch didn't break you savegame. No worries. :) Overall, these are minor changes, you can continue your campaign just as it was.

Assuming you aren't running mods, you should be good. I've got crashes due to script extender failing to initialise (mod related issue) so will just have to wait until that updates.

If you're not using any mods, your save games will be compatible.

In general savegames are compatible unless you used mods.

A game restart - at least from a milestone - is still recommended.

Yiieh thank you all that makes me happy :-) ( no mods )

Can you explain a game restart - at least from a milestone - is still reccomended?

Just turn off your mods. The savegame should still load.

Each savegame gets converted to work with the latest version. Even my savegame from release days still work because of that. However, due to additions of the game it is best to either start anew or from a milestone.

Milestones such as: savegame before Act transitioning/area transitionings for the first time.

A savegame you convert before entering the Lower City e.g. is more stable than after entering Lower City as there is less conversion to be done, and so on.

That is why one keeps milestone savegames such as

before Act 2
before second part of Act 2
before Act 3
before Lower City
