Can I make my own characters?
Hi,

Is it possible to make my own PC and party without being required to include the game's NPCs amongst them?

Cheers

yes

yes, you can but you will need to do the multiplayer work around by opening multiple instances of a game and making a multiplayer session with all of them.

Larian has stated that native ability to create a custom party is planned but that was said a while back so we can't be 100% sure it will make it.

It is, but currently it's a bit of a process. Basically you have to start 4 instances of the game and create a character for each game, and then using multiplayer have the other characters join whichever character you choose to be the host.

Once in game you save the game as the host and then close out the other instances. When you reload the save as a single player game, you'll have all 4 characters under your control.
This has draw backs though as you miss out on alot of quests and dialog options specifically meant for the origin characters.

How it will work in final release, I couldn't say.

I understand. I've done full custom party runs a few times. It is cool being able to run different party configurations and using classes you otherwise wouldn't be able to use it you didn't pick them for your own character, but I also always felt somewhat isolated and cut off from the story while I was playing like that.

It's definitely worth doing to experiment with different builds and party configurations. But I would never recommend anyone do a first playthrough like that.

Yeah, I haven't bought the game yet and I'm unlikely to if a lot of the content is tied to having specific NPCs in your party.

A lot of the story and immersion is based around the NPCs. I believe you would be missing out when playing with a custom party.

Yeah. You shouldn't buy it. The set companion party members are a big part of the journey in BG3.

The origin characters might have their own stories, but the vast majority of the game has absolutely nothing to do with your companions whatsoever.

I'd say that it's a matter of debate if you'd call it a LOT of content. I don't really think that'll be the case for the full game.

In DOS2, each origin companion had some sort of contact or quest to interact with in most acts, sure. But for the most part, the content they're attached to is still there, you'd just be missing added context or dialogue. For example, a couple of DOS2 origin characters were associated with a major big bad that can be found in act 3, but you're fully capable of just going to that big bad and fighting him (or assisting him) without the relevant characters present.

I am interested int he current pool of companions but they say they will be adding more so I still have hope. The only companions that seems "essential" to the main story is SH, who I absolutely LOATH so hears hoping that they find a way to move the story along with some, NEW companions.

I got into EA early on and disliked the companion options so much I was just going to put the game away forever. But, after learning about the multi player work around, I found ew legs int he game. Yes, you miss out on some dialog but because I didn't like the companions so much it was worth the trade off.

Even if they don't give better companions I think I'll still be able to enjoy the game building my own group but I'm still holding out hope for 3 companions that want to just quit the game. my 2 cents, cheers!

Shadowbae is currently the best companion in the game lol. 😍
