Shader pre-caching, most likely. It's a Steam thing.

They said last year that they wouldn't continue to add new things to the ea version. This means that for almost eight months, ea was stuck without any updates.

Are you impressed with this approach?

Yeah it's almost like they are focusing all their efforts on the release version because..
It's the release version. Mind-blowing, I know. Such eldritch & arcane knowledge is beyond the feeble comprehension of the average person.

If that's the case, why would they develop two different versions in vain? Directly develop the "release version" and take part of the first act directly from it into the ea version, so that it is convenient and efficient. For the development progress, but also for the ea players beneficial behavior?

By doing this, the save file is also preserved in the full version. This is why most other ea games, save files are universal.

Two things then:
1: Are you aware of how incompatible even the various EA versions are with each other? Now dial this to beyond 11.

2: Closed betas exist and if you wanted to be part of it you should have moved into one of Larian's offices.

So... since Larian is using gamer's impressions to make the game great, and is also working on a different chapter 1, for us who spend hours playing through all the ea patches, you are complaning about what?

Who cares if your save game can't continue? It has been said since day 1 and here are folks repeating ad nauseam the same bs comments...

No happy with the way Larian made EA?

Wait until final release, then... it's not like they kidnapped your whole family to blackmail you into buying the early access... just saying.

It's not my problem. I'm saying that since they have a "release version", they directly intercept a part of it for ea testing. That way, in theory, any save file during ea is compatible as part of the release version.

But the reality is that they are developing a separate version of ea that is different enough to make the "save" file incompatible, isn't that unwise?

No. Not really. Not if you know how Early Access works.

Now we don't know that. For all we know, Swen could have come to 'magickblog's' house and blackmailed them like:

I've also been involved in quite a few ea games on steam. Their save files are all compatible with their "release versions". This is definitely a good thing for players. Why do they stick to their old stubborn ways and develop a separate ea version? This creates inconvenient and incomplete ea access for players and adds unnecessary baggage to the development effort itself. What the hell is going on here?

How many of them changed where you-say- meet your companions? Or how a conversation goes? Among other things.
I'm going to ask you again because you ignored it last time: Are you aware of how incompatible even the EA versions are between each other due to how different some things are? Now dial it up to 11.

Once again, staggering ignorance about how Early Access works.

I get it. Although I don't think those " where you-say- meet your companions? Or how a conversation goes? " are enough to make the save file not generic. I still believe they treated the two versions differently from the beginning, and even artificially removed certain important episodes. All this is just to "not spoil the surprise".
