But it gets a lot better as you progress. There a lot of loot drops specifically tailored to monks out there too.
I know you said pure monk... but I do multiclass my STR monk for 5 levels. 2 into fighter and 3 into rogue. Action surge and thief "for the extra bonus actions" add a ton of damage to the build. But you don't HAVE to do it for it to be viable and fun.
Just a friendly warning.
Wizard, druids and cleric are tier 1 classes.
Nothing is as good as them.
Dont compaire yourself to them.
Monk is entirely viable.
Just not the best.

You should find a video guide of it called "Raging Monk" or something, and it seemed pretty strong and fun. Though it won't be good at Sleight of Hand because it's a strength build instead of dexterity.
