gortash relies on steel watch heavily, so if you disable them - he's not much of a fight.
there is a small cutscene if karlach is with you. and you can also cast speak with the dead on gortash body to have a little chat with his god instead, but i'm not sure if he needs to get a blessing from him for that to happen and i do not know how he gets that blessing - it happened only once in three times that i've killed him.
overall i'd agree that gortash quest feels very weak.
third act is borked in general. and the finale is even rougher.
