See higher floor during combat
How do I see the next floor up during combat?

Scenario: I'm on the ground floor, the enemy is on the roof. There is a whole in the roof I can jump through to get on the roof. The roof is invisible during my turn so that I can see around me - how do I see the roof so that I can give the jump order without running outside to make it appear?

you don't, the devs didn't think about this.

this is actually something that's bugging me, there is no way to raise the camera to a different plane. Which i feel is an oversight with the level design, anywhere with multiple floors should allow us to switch between those planes. Right now, if you're at an extreme negative elevation, it's very difficult to target enemies above you, or use things such as fly to get to them.

you can click on an enemies portrait on the initiative track up the top to make the camera go to them.

outside of combat is a whole other mess of wrestling with the camera.

This doesn't even work if you want to use something in your inventory for example.

3 years of early access to still have oversights as big as this is honestly really disappointing.

Just came here out of frustration in the Tollhouse. No spoilers, but there's a small room only accessible via a hole in the ground from the second floor. Might as well have been a pit of snakes, because I cannot get back to the second floor to leave. Disabled the tactical camera using o, no help. Going to fast travel out of there, but would be incredibly annoying getting stuck like this in combat, and I'm sure that's going to happen eventually

Haha thats where I was too! The character I sent down had the lantern too... I had to jump everybody off the roof, and the lantern guy out the window, and swallow the hp hit.

Best option is use "O". This switches to overhead view. Then zoom in or out. Not perfect and in some spots still can not get to see what you want, but can help.

Also as someone else said can click on portraits of mobs and if they are in view camera will change to their location. Can also use the tilde button to turn out highlights for your party and mobs. Again, situational.

But would have been nice to be able LOOK UP instead of just eye level and below.

The absolute worst for this problem is the haunted house. There are "mechanisms" at the top of every flight of stairs that will blast you back down, but you can't get around or target them until you're basically in range.

Also, pro tip, do not have the party grouped, because there is combat and when it ends and everyone is on a different level, the will move to your controlled member and get blasted...and blasted... and blasted because they will not stop.

If you arent in combat, clicking portraits isnt an option, equally if you want to do a non-combat move, such as jump, it also wouldnt work.

Yea it doesn't work and it's annoying, you have to physically move character to a point when camera shifts to a higher floor.

With a controller, I can zoom all the way out to a top-down view and move the selector around in turn-based mode to get at things normally cut-out by the de-osbcuring of stuff. I don't recall if this is a thing with a mouse.

It still has the height limit due to strength and can be blocked by being unable to find an un-blocked angle.

Guess most of us here came because of that room in the tollhouse lol, it really annoys me because I have the temptous magic flight ability on, but I just can't fly out of the room since I can't click on the 2nd floor

Found a workaround for the tollhouse. Select some action that your character obviously can't do, like shove action when you're in the tollhouse's annoying room. Then double click another character that's on the upper floor. This will let you focus the camera to that character but not select them, then you can use the jump action and jump on the upper floor.

In combat you can use the throw action to double click on stuff since that requires you to target something or somewhere else after clicking the first target. That way, your character won't try to move but you can focus the camera on some other character.

Of course this obviously won't work when all the characters are in the same room / floor and you want to jump or fly to a different floor.

O (oh, not zeroh) for top down, zoom all the way out. Game calls it "tactical view".
