The details about how and why it came to be this way are beyond the scope of any forum thread. Suffice to say that this is not news.
Although fans of the Baldur's Gate games long understood that D&D / Forgotten Realms would be used for any future sequel (like BG3), it's also literally the reason we did not want there to be a sequel.
All things considered, BG3 has turned out well enough, despite all the baggage and problems of D&D that weigh it down.
And also to have that distinction between Mithril and Adamantine properties. A Mithril Half-Plate that allows Stealth would be really cool for Shadowheart.
"Dang, this is neat, we got rid of the guardian and now we can use this. Lets test it out with some of the mithril we found around the area." and we would get mithril armor / weapons out of it, then later on, we find adamantine, and go. "Hey! We found that Forge that can use this stuff, lets head back there and forge some new weapons / Armor!"
Personally, I think that would have been the best way to do it. I'm very sad it didn't.. the fact you only ever (Afaik) ever visit this wondrous forge. that by all rights should have people clamoring to find, once and make two items out of it and never use it again feels so underwhelming. :\
I'm also very underwhelmed by the choices you have, both for making the masterwork weapon, and for the adamantine forge.
