What can Silence the Nightsong
Hey there, I could use some assistance here. It looks like I required a book from a bookshelf, but I accidentally cast a fireball, and well, you know the outcome. The tricky part is the book was already in there. My last save goes back to before the showdown with Yurgir. Frankly, I'm not really up for redoing an hour and a half's worth of progress. Any help would be great.

Pretty sure the book spawns on 4he trapped bookcase, first bookshelf to the left on the right hand side of the room. If you didn't fireball that particular one maybe it's still there?

what annoyed me about this riddle is that i had an Idol of Shar on me and it perfectly fits, but instead its a freaking book i need to put in there lol

Anyway...

That is the one indeed. Hoping there other way in.

Unfortunately i dont think there is. Maybe you need to reload a save if you really destroyed that book

Exactly! This is the first puzzle I've genuinely been mad at.

I mean can you really be mad about the game for that? The idol of Shar doesn't necessarily have to do anything with the nightsong lol hell it could just be a personal little statuette used by someone to physicalize their goddess

I mean sure, you find this idol near the beginning of the game and has nothing to do with the puzzle at hand, but...

The solution to this puzzle is Shar, and its the idol of Shar, so it fits perfectly in my mind. Better than a book at least, which says ABOUT the solution, but isnt the solution (imo)

Ehh I mean yes and no. With the fantasy genre there's a lot of give and take with expectations lol. The book hints at the solution to the question provided (what silences the nightsong), the book itself then provides the answer it hints at once you place it on the pedestal. Depending on how you look at it, what mental tilt you give the fantasy logic of it it makes some sort of sense. Arguably more then a random statuette thats only tie to the object in question is the dieity that it's tied too lol

It appears that when I cast the fireball, the shelf it was on got damaged, causing the book to go flying across the room to the other side.

Definitely random idol i found 20h ago shouldnt be a solution here, but since i had it on me already...
What i would do is put another statuette of Shar somewhere in that dungeon and that would be it.

Anyway whatever, its a small thing, but yeah that pissed me off at the time because i had to google it and it didnt make sense to me when i found out either

Ultimately you don't need to pass this room, you don't get a stone from passing it as I believe through environmental story telling it has been taken to another part of the dungeon by a certain entity or entities.
This is the only challenge in the gauntlet that does not have a stone, and it stood out to me as weird.
I don't think you've properly soft-locked yourself - rather you just cannot silence the night song.

I thought the riddle was a trap and since Shar was the answer, just going through the wall was enough (or can you not go through the wall if you didn't do a perception check?)
