A talk about cats led me down a terrible path
So, I see a lot of posts about all the gay advances in the game. With a lot of push-back, people claiming anti-LGBTQ bs. Here's the dialogue I experienced that pissed me off and put me in the "Larian screwed up with gay companions" group:

I like Gale. I think he's a cool, funny guy. Real friend material. And thus I talked with him about all the trivial stuff. So when he started talking about his cat, I was all for it. I didn't know this subject was the tunnel either into his rectum, or into becoming labeled a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ animal-hater.

Why? Because during the cat conversation with Gale, I ended up with 3 dialogue options. The first two practically exclaimed my erotic love for Gale, while the last one had me say this, and I paraphrase: "Would you stop talking about your stupid cat already? Don't you have more interesting things to say?"

I was forced to choose the latter for obvious reasons -- because my Ranger isn't gay -- which prompted Gale to say something like: "You're not an animal person, are you?"

Well, Gale, I'm a Ranger and my main purpose in life is to protect nature and its animals from those who want to do them harm. So, in no unclear term: Go F yourself.

Sadly, I didn't get that dialogue option.

In the end, I reloaded and ignored the cat subject altogether.

That didn't help, though. A few nights later we were practically holding eachothers' hands while looking at the night sky, completely devoid of player agency.

Edit/Add: The problem, of course, is that the game isn't coded into acknowledging a difference between genders. To the game, we're all unisex. So in this way, every companion is gay and also isn't. *cough* reductio ad absurdum *cough*

CASE REOPENED

Annnd Halsin is starting to give off rapist vibes by now.

What do I mean by this exxagerated expression of discontent? Well, after rejecting him a minimum of TWO TIMES ALREADY in Chapter 2, the creep AGAIN made an advance on me early Chapter 3. This is becoming so incredibly ridiculous, I'm actually getting this incredibly dumb urge to turn my positive review into a negative one. I had to reject the women ONCE -- actually far before I knew what woman was the right one -- and all ships have sailed with those chicks. Yet Gale and Halsin keep swinging open a door I've slammed shut multiple times. I mean, wtf? He also had the god-darned audacity to tell me I gave HIM the wrong idea. F off, dude! I was just being a nice bro. F you from now on.

Also, and this is kind of off-topic and weird: the romance scene with Karlach in Chapter 3 is nearly disgusting. Either the developers who made that scene never had sex before, or they went the cheap way and use the same romance animations/cutscenes for both women and male protagonists. I strongly suspect it's the latter case.

BG3 is a great game, but incomparable with the old Bioware when it comes to writing romance. And I believe it's high time we jump off the "LARIAN IS PERFECTION" bandwagon and start giving them some constructive feedback for their future games regarding this sh*te.

Don't worry even if you have selected a woman, Halsin and Gale would STILL BE TRYING.
Not joking. In my case i romanced Shadowheart, after i turned down Laezal's very agressive approach.
But netiher Gale nor Halsin cares for it. I think i bugged the conversations with Astarion(trying to suck your blood animation never triggered!) and thus he is acting totally(!) normal. The worst is even after you lift the curse of the woods, he just has to say something insinuationg.

After playing through Act I and getting a certain ending in Act 2 I can say with some confidence that the dialog branches with a fair amount of the camp members are broken in one way or another. Gale seems to be the worst of them. He's actually a pretty funny dude and has some great dialog outside of camp, but you must not interact with him in camp else you'll run into a minefield of boink bombs. So my current solution that seems to work is just ignoring everyone but the ones you want your character to boink during those exclamation mark moments of the long rest evenings. They are still fun to adventure with and have some great non-sexual commentary during your journey outside of camp. So...it's still a lot of fun, you just don't learn as much about the characters you don't want your character to bang. No bros, just hos I guess. Consider it a compromise since there seems to be a lot of people here offended that not everyone is gay or bi-sexual in real life and those types of interactions may make some people uncomfortable. Especially since some of those in camp interactions are kind of creepy aggressive in nature (Halsin and Gale in particular) and don't paint the lgbtq in a particularly favorable light. I'm kind of surprised so many of that community are defending this stuff as it's obviously pretty bugged right now.
Well, i did answer and talk with everyone, and idk if i can 'read' better which dialogue to choose, but even when they started to flirt i always ended the conversation in a bro platonic way, soo much so, that in the gale 'romance' scene of stargazing, he didnt even had sexual dialogues, i was just hearing his thoughts and then he thanked me for being his friend and asked to spend the night watching the stars and talking to him in the grass, no sexual acts, just both gazing at the stars and talking about life..

How is that rapist vibes?

It's not a mystery what to say there. It's a mystery why we have to reject him for a THIRD time! Or maybe even a fourth time, come to think of it.

I also admitted the rapist claim was exaggerated. I'm just pissed off the dude companions are written so terribly bad, beside the point literally ALL of them are bi-sexual. So lazy. So bad. For a game that receives such a ridiculous amount of unconditional love from everyone including most reviewers -- not to mention the whole "new standard" claim -- that which is absolute horse 💩 must be put to the attention.

I agree that Gale is a creep, I spent a good portion of acts one and two dodging his incessant advances, but I'm a bit confused as to why this is an issue of LGBT romances being included? Why is it an issue when the male characters are pushy with male players, but not female ones? His dialogue is exactly the same regardless of player gender, so the issue is that he's creepy, not that he's gay. I was playing a female PC and thought he gave off major incel vibes myself, but I have not from that concluded that including heterosexual romance options was a mistake. A lot of the romances are too pushy, and I definitely wish that it was a little harder to get in their pants, but I'm glad that I'm allowed to romance any of the NPC's I want as a girl :)
