D&D Q: Why do enemy mobs survive with 1 HP at abnormal rates?
One thing I'm really noticing is that enemy mobs survive with 1 HP far more often than they 'should'. Like I'll hit a 4 HP mob with a weapon that does 4-12 damage, and they end up with 1 HP left. Hit them again and they go down no problem, but it's tedious. They never end up with 2 HP, it's always 1 HP. I just backstabbed an 8 HP mob with perfect stealth, and sure enough... 1 HP left.

I thought it might be me, so asked three other friends who are playing and they were all 'OMG YOU TOO?!' so this is not just my game.

I'm figuring it's some D&D survival rule that I don't know about - anyone know what it is? At least then when it happens we'll know why, thanks.

Yeah I've been noticing that too!

Have you activated non lethal attacks by accident? This might be the cause.

Some enemies have resistance, and take less damage.

Just checked, and that is off. And if I hit them again they do die instantly.

a lot of undead have that ability, think it is listed as one of their buffs. some cleric mobs have it as well from what i have seen.
The game cheats.

Okay, a friend pointed me to 'Death Ward', which gives them 1 HP instead of dying. But I'm not seeing this show up in the combat log at all. I'll check mobs for this from now on.

Uh, what? It happens. I was asking WHY it happens, since the game does not tell you why it happens and the combat log is useless here. If the answer really is Death Ward, then I've answered my own question and am happy.

I wasn't saying the game is complete crap that needs to be boycotted and cleansed from the internet. I like it. It is a legitimate question and you should not feel your manhood is threatened by me asking the question.

Okay, I've ver1ified that this is 'Undead Fortitude'. It may go by other names like 'Death Ward', but in this case there was a whole room full of zombies with Undead Fortitude, and they all took the extra hit to kill.

Once I knew what I was looking for this particular form of it does show up in the combat log as 'Zombie was healed for 1 points. Zombie lost Condition: Undead Fortitude'.

You deal radiant damage that is from monk's open hands, cleric's guardian spirit, or got morninglord buff that gives you radiant damage bonus to swiftly kill them without triggering the undead fortitude

The spell deathward does that. If you would die you survive with 1 hp instead.

So what if they have 1 HP left ? Get your wizard , open up his missile ball , with the extra missile buff , u can clear all of them in a round .

Or better , get classes with Holy spell ( radiant dmg ) to get rid of them . Spirit of guardian have a pretty large aoe , cast it on ur cleric and move around every undead is gone .

They don't. You're just more likely to notice it
