For those of you who stumbled their way into avernus like I did what was your strategy for getting out? I had to use my divine intervention to make it out alive after robbing the place blind of 3 legendary items.

Prepared by drinking lots of fire resist potions, made sure to have Hope and get the free long rest at the bath. Summoned all 6 ghouls thanks to book of necromancy spell, Threw Otto's Irresistible Dance at the boss, took control of some adds with Planar binding and got rid of the rest. Made sure to have the mini boss convinced I could win and then it was no issue. The ghouls managed to paralyze the cambions too so with enough prepare, it was easy, even in Tactician.

Ghouls not a bad idea and the fire resist potions would have been helpful I might try the fight again just to keep divine intervention. Hope is absolutely essential as well as convincing the mini boss. My main issue was being killed turn 1 before I could do anything which would require me to use divine intervention but if I had a pack of ghouls it would be significantly easier

What you actually get if you side with Raphael ?

Walk back to the feasthall.
Black hole + trow(deadly combo) rapheal into the hole that instantly killed him.

Ask why he didnt just fly out?
Banish the general using hope banishment power.
The rest was just black hole, bind outsider, trow, mind blast, icestorm.

Really the fight would have been over 15 rounds ago but devils are immune to fireball.
And 90% of my damage comes from fireball.

Yeah its actually really easy to just give bosses covid in this game. Just stacking every status ailment under the sun on them makes the fight a breeze.

A cool option is to put a death ward spell on hope if you plan on using the divine intervention. That way she won't die from it.

Otherwise if you want her legendary item, you can cast that one, use sanctuary on her and only use her to buff and heal. Her heals are pretty good, just gotta move her out of the way from Yurick

I used black hole and he transformed into his true form and killed all of his lackeys with his aoe*shrug*.

I straight fought him. Two clerics, didn't use divine intervention, still don't know what that even does. Used magic missle and eldritch blast on Gale to blast the soul pillars while I worked on the adds with the others.
Sadly Raph went berserk and blasted a huge area with fire which nuked Hope. Was sad about that, but I decided to continue on without her. I'll try to get her out in a different run.
After the pillars were down I just slowly worked him down while doing what I could to keep people in acceptable condition. Fight was quite a tough one, but I enjoyed the hell out of it, especially the song. Banger song.

Am on story mode, so things are different I guess. Could not use Divine Intervention cause Raphael went first and cast his reflective damage on the room. So instead just hasted myself (ranger) and Karlach and worked on adds. Wyll blew up pillars. Shadowheart and Hope healed and tossed in some damage when possible.

I did this eventually, actually after the pillars were down because I was running low on spell slots and needed something to use on him. That scroll I kept kept him locked down for a ton of turns at the end which is what secured my win hilariously.
