*Spoilers* Saving everyone from prison
If you have gotten far enough into the game you are tasked with saving a bunch of prisoners from an underwater prison.

From what I have been reading and seeing online a lot of people have been having issues completing this mission fast enough, so wanted to give some tips here to help out.

For one, there are apparently two different experiences you can have with this prison.

First of all, if you have seen the coronation of one of the big bads as the leader of the city, you are going to have a lot more prisoners to rescue from the underwater prison.

I've read that you need to rescue the duke, a bunch of family members of the gondian metal watch foundry, and omeleum the friendly mind flayer from the underdark who is here somehow.

However, when I played I skipped the scene of watching the coronation by flying OVER the fortress and to the other side and entering the city with the coronation still going on.

This means that the the duke is still in the fortress and I don't know what happened to omeleum yet, except to know that he is not in the prison with the others, it was only the family of the gondolians that were inside.

The next thing to know is that before you start the trip down the ladder to the prison from the submersible you get a chance to prepare and cast spells.

I recommend to have longstride on all your party members as well as haste if you can to double your movement speed.

Try to have gale with you or another wizard so that you can have access to misty step and arcane doorway (the permanent portal between two spots.

Depending on whether or not you have any allies who have leaned into their mind flayer powers or not this could be either really easy or really hard.

One of my characters, a monk who has multiclassed as a thief, was especially deadly to the enemies in the prison because of all the extra attacks and movement speed I had per turn (two regular attacks and two bonus attacks from unarmed attacks that use ki points, and they can get yet another attack if they use haste or speed potions, although haste is the preferred option since it lasts for 10 turns and the prison sequence only lasts for 6.

So, whoever is your best person to 1 shot enemies in a single attack should go to the route directly across from the ladder in the room as soon as you decend into the prison.

The area down the hallway is going to have someone strapped to a table and a level to open a prison cell.

You need an action point to unstrap the person from the table, so whoever you send should have at least 2 actions per turn and a lot of movement speed.

The next person you send should be to the left or down from the ladder, whichever way you are looking, down to a room that has 1 sahuagin champion and one warrior with one cell to open that has two people in it.

They will have to finish this fight within 2 rounds to let the people escape since one of the people in this particular cell is a halfing or gnome and very slow, so they need 4 turns to get to the submersible dock unless you can teleport them closer.

You will need to send two people to the right or up from the ladder down a hallway that has two explosive barrels and a lot of oil on the ground.

Make sure to pick up both barrels on your way down so they don't explode later, because if they do, the doors at either end of the hallway close off automatically and you won't have time to break them down.

There are another two sahuagin down this path, but only two normal warriors with only 38 health.

Use some kind of area attack that doesn't use fire to knock both of them out quickly like cloud kill or something similar.

Send your two characters to either side of the room to unlock the cells for everyone in this room.

There are a lot more people here than in the other two locations, but somehow they end up escaping before almost everyone else if you open the cells all on the same round, which is odd.

The reason why it's handy to have gale in your party is so that you can place an arcane door at the beginning and end of whichever hallway you are having the most trouble with to get people out faster.

Once you get down to the final two turns make sure to have all your characters turn\ and run back to the submersible dock or they won't make it in time.

As long as you climb the first ladder and have someone already inside the submersible everyone should make it back safely.

The reason you need your best attacker and fastest runner in the upper tunnel where the girl on the table is, is because a lot of sahuagin keep spawning there and you need someone who can take them out quickly to let the other prisoners escape and hold the doors to keep the sahuagin in that room.

My half mindflayer shadow monk/thief at level 12 was able to one shot every single one except for the champions due to the mindflayer ability to instantly kill any opponent who has less health than you have mindflayer abilities unlocked.

That combined with 4 attacks per turn (2 actions and 2 bonus actions) ensured that I could clear the room of enemies in one round or kill a champion in 2 hits.

And since monks have a ton of movement speed with just one dash bonus action I could make it all the way from the room at the end to the ladder to the submersible dock. It also helps if your character is race with a lot of default movement speed, like an elf. If your wizards or clerics can summon elementals or undead, that helps a lot too.

If you've made all the necessary preparations listed, you can both fight all the enemies AND save all the prisoners, without having to worry about saving omeleum or the duke because they aren't there yet :).

So yeah, don't head THROUGH the fortress, just fly over it and rescue the prisoners first, makes life a lot easier.

My only issue, when the npcs dash only 1/4 of the distance they could dash for, this makes me crazy.

And ofc the neutral pilot standing right in front of the ladder, so that no one can enter

Totally forgot about arcane gate, will try that... would I already wasted that single spellslot.... got arcane recovery charge of 6 still can only recover a 5th lvl spell

Drinking the haste potion was also a failure, I casted it now, 7 turns longer and not missing a turn after 3rd round.

hastspells not working, I fall right into lethargy :D... concentration ofc

My biggest problem there was that Omeluum is slow as hell. Restarted mission 2 times and he did not make it on time. Maybe if I simply used invis on Karlach (she was dashing towards him) and ignored all enemies I would've be able to free him so he can get back but I have no idea how I would've be able to pass all these enemies. Poor Omeluum.

I was able to rescue everyone on Balanced by:

#1 using the Ghouls from the necromancy book. MAJOR help .

#2. Assuming you broke the pact: Cast Sanctuary on the Duke.

#3. Prioritize unlocking cells farthest away and remember SANCTUARY SPELL AND HASTE!!!!

#4 The hardest part, I found, was saving the two people on the way to rescuing the mind flayer dude because that is where the enemies keep spawning from.

THAT is where the ghouls are most helpful.

#5. Don't forget, you just have to reach the mindflayer guy...once you get there, he can warp you to the sub.

Some npcs dash but just wait, I love it, reloading

And I hate redhammer, he isn't in combat and can walk freely between everyone and just annoys the heck out of me.

Misty Step and Dimension Door to speed up their hampered / futile attempts of escape.

Everyone
haste (2 potions / 2 spells)
freedom of movement
long stride

3 summons
1 deva (jin would have been far better and faster)
2 earth myrmidon

2 times dimension door on ravengard, gale cone of cold on spiders

killing all enemies before opening doors, besides maybe one

shadowheart dimension door into the water, opening door and dimension door on restrained patient -> out if it again, closing the door behind of her

leaving all the chests ;(

Hit the iron throne at max level and had 0 problems rescuing everyone (once they fixed the bug.) Innate flying on the sorc helps a ton, and also twincasting haste.

There's a room that's filling with water and sahuagin, once you rescue the people in there close the door behind you with the lever by the side of the door. They won't be able to get through, (there's no lever on their side.) I sent my MC flying down after Om and had Lae'zel pull the lever. Also the fish guys will attack the prisoners so try and wipe them out as you're going to open the cells.

And don't hesitate to push the NPCs towards the sub/out of danger.

...Omeluum has an ability called 'Teleport to Nautaloid' or something to that effect. He'll basically dimension door both himself and the party member you sent to rescue him to the sub.

Like Wiib above mentioned, I basically did the same thing. Gave everyone a haste potion, and two or three chars. summoned units to help out. The only story important chars. are:

Duke Ravenguard

Gondians

Omeluum (If he is alive)

A note about the Duke: If you pick for Wyll the option to save his soul, Mizora will pop down and spawn 8 exploding spiders around the Duke, just dimension door him to safety and then deal with the spiders at range.

Gondians you can have a few die, just not...Zalbus? Keep the blind Gondians daughter safe and this gets you another way to save the foundry.

Omeluum will be an ally for the Gather Your Allies thang.

Saving everyone gets you some nice things said about you and a sub filled with folks grateful you saved them.

gladly I never met Omeluum.

Completed only a tiny fraction of the lower district, mostly went from underground sewer (completed that mostly, bhaal door still closed ) to the rescue of minsc , now to the rescue of the family members, orin still has lae'zel

PS: Astarion felt a little weak down there, as trickster

Fly(before timer) + haste = dash x2 and fly any place in 1 turn.
Doors can be closed, to block new enemies.

Okay that was fun after my confusion settled. And washed everyone <3

What I really liked was Gale and Astarion, both approved Ravenguard's dialogue.

Time for a Rest.

Omeleum is supposed to teleport himself and whoever rescues him to the ladder, so not sure what's going on there. May be a bug.

Don't know. Probably missed the ability. Maybe I was too fixated on the combat to notice the ability 2 times. I've finished one playthrough and doing another one now so I would try to look for that when going to break him out again. I did not had any issues with any other prisoner there b/c I had ghouls, Us, few other summons called by Gale and Shadowhart, and those nasty spiders that were suppose to be attacking Duke died in one turn from my avatar.
