Illithid powers are all kinda awful?
LIke Am I missing something?

I did a second play through and am accepting the illithid powers.. but they all kinda just aren't that impressive or useful?

Am I missing something? This can't be the so called "Great Potential" I'm unlocking. Most of these are just garbage.

Basically all the good mindflayer powers only a true mindflayer can use.

they only one i used often, is black hole in order to bunch a whole group of enemies up for my big spell slingers AoE attacks, other then that i barely use them

freecast is insane, the ability to spam level 6 spells every other turn is insanely broken it also makes metamagic and class resources not get consumed along with the spell slot. it implies its once per short rest but its every other turn so lets say on sorc you haste yourself and use quicken spell your getting 3 actions per turn all casting level 6 spells. a sorc using freecast 1 shots bosses and ends most fights on the same turn regardless of difficulty level.

mind sanctuary is also insanely good making actions and bonus actions interchangeable

black hole is very good for CC

displacer beast is basically a 100 life shield that spawns infinite copys, insanely busted

perma flight insanely broken high ground in every fight and basically doubles your characters movement stacked with haste it allows you to basically never get hit in combat and if you are sorc twin spell haste is your bread and butter anyway.

yes you are missing something, the starting powers are just okay there are a few good ones like repulsor and i think mind blast but the tier 3 powers are all insanely busted and break the game.

So if you get the helm that heals you 1d6 when you heal someone else and you have 2 characters with the illithid healing ability, you can essentially full heal your entire party after every fight with no resources used, other than 1 char will be at half life + 1d6 hp.

Also, some of the other powers are pretty neat, like the charge with knockback that combos with the extra damage. Also the insta kill is really good when you've taken a lot of perks.

Finally, that passive that helps you hit the first time against someone is really nice if everyone in your party has it, because 4 attacks against someone can usually finish off just about anyone, so your party can mostly always have it triggering.

Oh and the charm works wonders against enemies that get multiple attacks, if the charm lands after the first attack, they stop with the follow ups. Really great way to save some HP.

I actually kept forgetting I had Black Hole & Mind Blast. Kinda funny now in retrospect.
