Thanks Mom
But to help put your mind at ease, anything that can be sold to a vendor (as far as I can tell) will never be necessary for quest start/end/progress. They will, on occasion, add additional dialogue options ("Hey, here's this letter for you."), but in all those instances they didn't <expand> on the quest at all. Thank goodness. (Quest-specific items will be orange bordered and not be sellable to vendors, even after you are finished with their associated quests)
Well this item is a material used for a companion quest that is quite rare, there may be more of it but i've only found two so far and it seems you need two for it.. I'm fairly confident I sold it since it's not in my inventories and I never drop anything. I'm thinking I sold it to the smith tiefling in the grove and his inventory doesn't carry over the next time you see him.
Vendor inventory doesn’t recycle either, even across acts can still hop back and everything frozen in time like when last were in that map. So should be good once rem where it was…we did same thing with another quest item, luckily after back tracking combing through merchants dude at grove had ours.
Infernal Iron? I happened across 4 of them in my playthrough of Acts 1 & 2. There might be more, but you'd have to scrub pretty hard to find even that many (I was pretty thorough)
But in Act 3, you will gain access to a near unlimited supply after a certain event (no spoilers). I know it feels like you're still super early in that character's companion questline, but the truth is.. its a pretty short arc. They're great with the dialogue from scene to scene, but they simply on't have a lot going on in their personal journey compared to the others :)
