In this case i think BG3 is great on it's own but but still lacks a lot of customization options. simple things like being able to customize more settings when choosing a difficulty. A simple "points system" approach would remove the need to worry about things getting unbalanced. Every time the player chooses something like a higher level cap or more than four toons they give the DM (in this case RNGesus) "point" to spend towards increasing the difficulty. If the player chooses to make their life hard the DM gives them points to spend on ways to balance it out. If the player doesn't spend these points they would playing a harder than normal game.
It would be a wonderful way to increase replay-ability as well. Maybe some day. Hopefully with mods.

Grinding isn't always about doing the exact one same fight you know.
Don't worry, I can accept when I'm wrong, but... This behavior is nothing but xp grind mentality, so according to your words you must be a terrible person. Considering that you're creating your own issues and wish for others to fix the mess you put yourself into that doesn't sound farfetched at all.
If you run into a wall fullspeed you don't complain about getting hurt, do you? So far I really don't see how the level curve is problematic as long as you don't break it intentionally. There's nothing wrong with breaking a game's balance if you enjoy doing so, I do too, but it doesn't make any sense to complain about broken balance afterwards.
There is a mod on Nexus Mods that allows level 20 characters.. It works fine. You have. To multiclass but you can do 12 of one class and 8 of another.
There is another mode to at 2 extra party members. It works with to level 20 mod. There.. Problem solved.
OK, I would really like to be able to play with a larger party, even just 5 or 6 because I enjoy all the different classes! Are the mods for doing this safe or will it crash?
You are wrong. You're white knighting, plain and simple.
This is a RPG, based on a TTRPG right? Key word in both is ROLE PLAYING!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lord almighty!
Why would I avoid fights unless I was ROLE PLAYING a stealthy kind of person, or a pacifist?
It's not a damn GRIND.
Youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu may want to skip content, or YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU may want to 'avoid battles'
but the game is supposed to be designed to have thousands of endings. Most with just minor adjustments, I am sure. Still, the devs should have designed the game looking at both extremes.
"Okay, so what would a person be, level wise, if they literally killed the whole game's population?"
annnnnnnnnnnnnnnd "what would their level be just avoiding the fights, and focused SOLELY on the main story?"
then adjust experience gains to balance both extremes out with one another.
Fact is, the only reason they didn't MAX OUT the level at frickin 20!!!!!!!! is because you damn dice rollers whined about how OP your characters would be. Like you all just don't want fun.
Lemme ask, if 90% of campaigns end early and never reach those higher levels, then why do they even exist? Huh?
Hitting max level in ANY GAME should make you feel like a god in that world.
Pathfinder, hell, you can reach max level, if you choose one path, you can DOUBLE IT, fully multi-classing into two damn classes or a combination of many
Plus they added mythic paths, giving you even MORE things to level.
and did I feel unstoppable towards the end? No. Because the enemies were progressively more and more powerful.
Now, what they have us against in THIS game are powerful foes too, that we should!!!!!!!! need the higher levels to go against!
and if the damn ♥♥♥♥ is too strong, just nerf it down!
This doesn't have to be a 1 to 1 of the damn table top.
It's completely ridiculous to be capped at 12 when you reach 12 before the final act of the damn game!
and us who have are GAMERS who explore the map, who do the content, and don't RUSH through it!!!!!!!!
Why would you kill everything that moves otherwise?
edit:
You realize you're asking for the curve to be desigend in a way that you ahve to do everythign to not cap too fast.
Majority of people won't do everything however, so they'd end up underleveled and not enjoying the game.
It's game design, you can either refuse to even think about it and complain, or you accept why things are the way they are. Games aren't handtailored to how YOU want them to be, their made so that most people can enjoy them.
edit2:
Just take some godmode mods or lvl mods if you want the power fantasy you want, this game was not designed for that and it's your own fault to expect sth it obviosly was never meant to be or provide.
Just get the damn mod and chill. The game was balanced around players being at max level 12. You reached level 12 early. You've still got plenty of games to play. You should be happy.
I can't believe this ♥♥♥♥. Do you immediately stop playing a game if you reach max level? Have you ever played an MMO or an RPG where you hit level cap and you still have 200 hours to play just because of gear upgrades? Do you not understand how game balance works?
