Completed the "quest" both ways, Character has the mace in the end of the cut scene but not in inventory in either case? Where is it?

it is in the inventory. THE PROBLEM IS how to interrupt the laser

I missed it, looked like a torch and looked at it several times not mousing over it DOH!!!
