How do I stop my toons eating my owlbear egg?

Owlbear egg says it's worth 700gp. Also says it's worth 40 food. How do I stop it getting eaten?

never seen it being selected when i've hit auto fill. Just check to make sure. Simple as that.

Only way I've found is to put a chest that I've picked up, down in camp and store the egg in it. The chest stays where you place it from camp to camp as long as there is room, so I place it on Shadowheart's rug, that's closest to the Travelers Chest.
