Random crashes on RTX 4090
I have all of the latest drivers and I am getting crashes completely randomly - I don’t even know what’s causing it, and most of the time there isn’t even an error code.

I have tried repairing the local files and that hasn’t helped.

Is anyone else having these crashes or found a fix?

Hey guys, I had the same problem as you, the game that crashes for no reason with directx error. I started my research and ended up finding a video of a person who said that he had just changed the v-sync mode, going from triple to double. I tried and since then, no more crashes.. to do with time, but just before trying that, in the morning, I had 3 crashes in the space of an hour. And just after, nothing more. I have a 13900k (UV) with 4090 (UV + OC) and 32 Go DDR5

On the other hand, be careful, every time I restart the game, I have to double v-sync
What fixed the issue for me (as far as I can tell) is adding an FPS cap which matches your monitor's refresh rate.

I could never go above an hour without the game randomly crashing before, and most of the time it would crash within half an hour.

Just the other day I played the game for 2 and a half hours and I had zero issues, I only got off the game because I had to lol.

Awesome, this did it for me. Switched from triple to double buffering as well.
Thank you!!!

No crashes on my TUF 4090 but very strange flickering black boxes on the lower and middle right hand side on both the TUF 4090 and Suprim 4090. Maybe some issue with frame generation? Im not really a techie girl.

I can’t say I’ve had that issue myself. Are you using the latest drivers?

Yapp, I even tried DDU and an fresh install as well as a totally new monitor. Seems like maybe a few issues on 4090 popping up? I hoped the game ready driver they put out a few days ago would fix but no :(

Yeah I do think that there are some issues specifically with the 4090 for this game.

At least you’re not getting frequent crashes though, I can’t go an hour without the game crashing just because I jumped or inspected a corpse lol.
Got crashed every 10-15 min today, and it has been getting worse and worse since the 3rd patch. Only got 0-3 crashes every 10 hours before that.

kkkk maybe the enemy wizards are casting alt-f4 and directx error? It's not a bug, it's intentional!
Use borderless fullscreen and try switching between DX11 and Vulcan. I dont know why but my game just randomly starts to misbehave on Vulcan for example. I switch to DX11 then for a bit , switch back after couple of hours and i'm good again.

Seems like complete divination honestly but for some reason that works for me then game starts to crash.

Sorry to hear. 3080Ti here, and I have it shackled on a PCIE3 bus since I'm too cheap to upgrade the mobo as yet. No crashes in BG3, surprisingly. Hope it gets better for you.

have the same problems with the errors. All drivers new, PC runs perfect with all games. They should fix Balsurs Gate, then it runs on all computers. A defective game was released here

And something weird is, that after every start after a crash the game asks me if I want nuditiy, presents the darkness slider and so on, just like starting the game for the first time..something is really off!
Does the exact same thing for me too
Does it start with debug profile after crash? Debug profile is something that starts instead of you "Public" profile?

If it is not debug profile maybe (and even then) maybe it would be prudent to clean all Larian data and start creating the profile from scratch.
Meaning delete whole BG3 folder from:
C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3' and the repair the installation
NOTE: copy saves for safekeeping before this!

I’m not sure what it says to be honest - I am going to try and launch the game using the administrator option and then maybe limit my FPS to match my refresh rate and see if that helps.

If I get a crash with a crash code even after that, I’ll let you know what it is.

Try Direct X 11 option in the launcher then :
- Go the .exe (dx11 exe if you use it or the other for Vulkan),
-Run as admin
-Disable full screen optimization
-Give full control in security tab (admnin).
This worked for me, I had 0 crashes for 45 hours, and randomly getting perma crashes (end of Act 1) since last patch.

Where do I disable full screen optimization?
What do you mean by "give full control in the security tab"?

Sorry, I am not a crack when it comes to the PC, just want to play

Both .exe files are located in your game's folder : (Steam\steamapps\common\Baldurs Gate 3\bin) by default.
- Right click on "bg3_dx11" or "bg3" (if trying to fix with Vulcan)
=> Properties => Compatibilty tab, check boxes for :
- "Run this as Administrator.."
- "Disable Full Screen optimization"
- "Modifiy for all Users"
- Apply
-Navigate to Security tab:
- Ensure that you have all authorized access with your main user and as
admin. (All boxes on the left are checked but the last one).
- Apply (if needed) and Exit.
- Then restart the game launcher and select Dx11.

Thanks! Will try it!

Edit: Just tried it and with this settings, the game does not start at all, but it goes DIRECTLY to the crash report (nothing to send) *LOL*

Game is broken for some 4090 users. There is nothing we can do, but Nvidia and Larian PERIOD

It's not as bad as that for me, but yeah I'd say it's even worse than before having that on. It didn't even give me a chance to give a crash report this time...
BimboGooch 14 AGO 2023 a las 12:17
imo 4090s have issues with the card its self or something. Such a higher number of reports like this are from 4090 users. Even though its likely 4090s are like a VERY small % of the user base. Like percentage wise 4090s seem to have the most issues.
