STR Rogue
Is STR Rogue a viable choice? I used to play something like that in Pathfinder. Using STR weapons for sneak attacks and being kind of ''thug lord''

you can only sneak attack with finesse weapons and bows/xbows

which is to say, technically yes
but does it make sense? no

just roll barb

Is there any subclass in DND for rogue to use sneak attacks with non-finesse weapons?

You could do a Conan build of like Barb 5 -> Rogue 3 (Assassin or Thief) -> Barb 9. That gets you the Assassin/Thief bonuses - which don't care about Finesse - while still going heavy Barb. A Barb using the autocrit feature of Assassins could be astonishingly deadly on the first turn. Although you won't have the high initiative of a Dex build.

Sadly I don't think you can get sneak attack damage with a thrown weapon, though I haven't tested it.

Nothing that makes STR Thug Rogue strong in Pathfinder is implemented in this game.

There's no demoralize, no cornugon, shatter defenses or debuffs on sneak attacks.
Also, sneak attacks are limited to 1 per round.

This is a completely different system under which STR Rogue makes very little sense. That is unless as just a dip for a multiclass of some sort.

Yeah you can use strength as the modifier for finesse weapons, so you would be a normal rogue with worse AC and higher carrying capacity/jump range. Should prolly get medium armor + shield proficiency from somewhere to get your AC in line.

^this.

The problem is medium armour gives stealth disadvantage, so you will have to contend with that.

Light armour & str based = non existent AC, so you will just go squish.

There is one Longsword Weapon currently that can be used as Sneak weapon (it has finesse tag) (Phalar Aluve)

There is Medium armor that doesn’t give you stealth disadvantage.

Well there are 2 finesse longswords in the game.
At least I found 2.
Palah Alure is available pretty early, it’s the sword in the stone in Underdark.
So it might work to sneak attack with STR with them. But I did not try it.

You would have to spec something weird like DEX, STR and lastly CON.

In short, you spec DEX or you spec STR, not both.

There are 2 finesse longswords at least if you wish a bigger sneak attack weapon for DEX.

There is even heavy armor that does not give steath disadvantage and any class can wear it.
But it is legendary and pretty late in act3 (Raphael)

But there are few medium armors that work for stealth actually.

Unarmed strikes are finesse weapons. With the Tavern Brawler feat, that's probably the weapon you want for a STR sneak attacker. You could try a Githyanki or Dwarf Monk/Rogue, since they get some armor profs for free (you'll lose some monk bonuses though, so you might be better off with Barb/Rogue).
Just go dex and give rogue some magical str equipment, that's what I did and changed the rogue into a paladin later down the line.
