I want to do a archer / dual wield playthrough. Now im new to this game so i dunno what class is best. Can you guys tell me the differences...

I might want so magic support.
Can rogue or ranger do decent damage?
Is the rogue or ranger more versatile?
Which does most dps?
Which has best armor ?

Gloomstalker is basically both. Non-Gloomstalker Rangers are trash, though; play a Dex fighter instead.
This is incorrect, don't listen to this. Played a dual wield ranger in heavy armor and a feat for one handed weapons as the dual wield, can kick ass, just like being a person with a bow can work great. Can also have pet animals too. Those choices work just fine.
Too many people on this forum have a massive problem of not liking a class/sub class and thus call it garbage when it's not and it's just their personal preference.
I'm actually wondering about a Drizzt Ranger build. How would a Dex Ranger Beastmaster with dual scimitars feel?

Can't say since that's probably one of the least likely builds I'd ever do. I tend not to favor pets unless they are summons in a fight, don't use scimitars much, etc.
I'm sure it would work, there are a few nice scimitars from what I remember.

Ranger. You don't have to stealth as much, you can get heavy armor proficiency if you have a Dragonslayer fantasy in mind and has multiattack for dual-wielding. Ranger also has some interesting spells.
going ranger kinight for heavy armour is for melee rangers that dont use finese weapons, where you stack STR instead of DEX. DEX based chars don't get any benefit from heavy armour, they're better wearing medium or light.
Depends. Medium or light armor won't get you higher than 19 (with dex+5). Getting heavy armor allows you to take feats and still have 19 AC. Most medium armor is also very underwhelming. Heavy armor usually give you more interesting bonuses or larger damage reductions.

The point they were making is the dex to AC is not happening with heavy armor, so unless you REALLY want that initiative bonus, having a ton of dex on a heavy armor user isn't the biggest want probably.

The Yuan-ti Scale Mail can get you to 20.

Also.. with respecs being so cheap.. you can change to whatever you want when you understand more. I went Gloomstalker Ranger for fun on my current game. I love bows but when i chose specialize type for the Ranger i picked Duel Weapons.. hehe.. and im just winging it as I go. The new 5E changes are so weird so might as well learn by trial. At 7 now I can recpec, change classes and points if I feel the need.

As for what would be a great version of what you are saying.. Ranger/Rogue multiclass for sure would be it. I am finding i wish I could have Sneak Attacks on my Ranger.. but she is also mainly the party lead tank too.. its weird and working.. so pick one and see what you like about it and what you think you would miss

I get that but it's still a good option in my opinion. It would be optimal as a strenght ranger but even so it's just a ranger favourite enemy option so it's not a big loss like taking a feat.

Yeah. Most medium armor. Yuan-ti is a great option (even in the tabletop version is pretty busted)

Ranger GLOOM STALKER

I have always heard that rangers are the worst class to play in d&d. Now this is kinda a different game so take that like a grain of salt. frankly in my experience in the game a ranged sneak attack can be devastating. so i am pro rogue at this point.

Yeah, but I mean, Yuan-ti Scale Mail does the same thing you're suggesting, just better. You can still get feats, and you'll have 20 AC. Only downside is you have to get to the Last Light Inn, but I've yet to find Heavy Armor before that that will give you 19 AC on its own, so it's the same thing, really.

I play ranger (beast master) and I am doing 40+ DMG per turn from 5 level (I am at 6 so far). (sharpshooter feat). I am using "hunter's mark" a lot. Ad to it pet with some interesting skills, like bear who disarm its target.....

Ranger is better for combat, Thief is better for out of combat utility as it has expertise.

Both are great at stealth and don't let people tell you otherwise, especially since ranger can have pass without trace which gives an astounding +10 on stealth checks.

Imo, take both. lvl 3 rogue thief + 9 ranger is amazingly strong and has the best of both worlds.

Try Gloomstalker 8 Thief 4; start as ranger - this is important for the saving throw proficiencies! - until at least lv 5 for a second main attack and a level 2 spell, then do as you like.

This combo nets you loads of attacks (Thief gets 2 bonus actions, Gloomstalker 1 more attack on his first combat turn) and a plethora of resistances/benefits from ranger levels. You can be resistant to fire, cold as class features (poison resist. from spell), have Protection from Evil as well as Misty Step as ranger class spells, high mobility thanks to wood elf + the longstrider spell, and have saving throw proficieny in STR, DEX, INT and WIS (the later two from Gloomstalker lv 7); with a certain armor (obtainable in act 1) even in CON.

Very versatile (dual wielding and ranged both good) and fun package. Oh, and you are an absolute powerhouse on the skills side if you slap on the headband that gives INT 17.

This sounds most valid. Why is everyone so excited about gloomstalker? What makes the so good?

Also off topic: how is a paladin? Can they do magic?
