How do you know how much of each act you completed? Was not aware of a precise guide.
Having completed the game myself Act 2 is by far the shortest. Act 1 is the longest followed by Act 3. But then that could change depending on what you choose to do in each. However, I did not find much to do in Act 2 even after attempting to find things to do. So I abandoned it after about 10hrs of play.
Nonsense. Act 2 is just short plain and simple. Not sure of the weird comparison to other 'mid-sized' RPG's guess act 2 in dos2 is an RPG in its own right now.
A certain somebody entered a certain somewhere and a big thing happened. Roll credits. I never even seen what the city of Baldur's Gate looks like.
There has been a lot of Youtube videos about it, and Larian even replied about it in an official announcement.
There's a lot of side stuff in Act 3 and 1 that's not relevant to the main story.
Act 1 - 50 hours
Act 2 - 35 hours
Act 3 - 55 hours (and I have only completed several side quests and a quest of one of my fellow adventurers)
I am at 180 hours, and I don't think I am even through half of Act III. I am being super careful and also trying to play a "completionist" pattern though.
Yes, it certainly seems that way!
I wish the game had broken Act III up more - to perhaps Act III and Act IV at least.
Full playthrough per logged hours in steam since EA ended = 169h
Full playthrough according to my savegame file = 131h
Which means, you guessed it = 38h of save scumming or going back and playing out major chains of events differently (much more the former than the latter). Think about that: 1/3 to a 1/4 of my first playthrough was reload time!
So of that 131h actual 'not going back and repeating' play time, I'd guess:
50h Act I*
35h Act II**
45h Act III
*Keep in mind this is a low figure because I had ~ 200h in EA and only the Mountain Pass, Karlach (in generral) and Wyll's rewritten plotline were truly new for me on launch day. So Act I was just about grinding out a lot of stuff I knew by heart. I'd tack another 10h on Act I if you were a newbie but carefully stopped to do everything and didn't stumble into non-initial-area stuff too soon.
Keep in mind Act I is MASSIVE -- main initial area, spider underground area, Underdark, Grymforge and Mountain Pass. That's absolutely ridiculous.
**I feel like the Gauntlet of Shar and just looting/exploring Reithwen in particular in Act II really stretched it out. Act II has a small main surface map, but a large underground map as well with a TON of combat and a lot of walking back and forth. Also, a fairly nasty battle with Githyanki can happen in Act II if you make certain decisions at the Creche in the Mountain Pass. That was not a wipe but a few re-starts on my part. Also, that Isobel battle in Act II was a buckler. Took a few tries.
