Strategy wise, you wanna pick up the purple containers. There's one right next to where you find Shadowheart and three more in the actual battle itself. Just right click on them to put them in a character's inventory. You'll need the Command spell on Shadowheart to make Zhalk drop the weapon. I suggest autosaving before using it though as she'll only have a 55% chance of hitting.
Once he drops the sword, have whoever pick up while Shadowheart buffs/heals the Mind Flayer dude. You'll then want to drop all those containers around Zhalk. So whoever is doing the least damage can set the up. They don't need to be perfectly on top of him, just around his general area.
When his reinforcements spawn, have the brain (make sure you recruit it earlier) disengage and sit in the middle of the arena. It'll distract the two dudes so they won't sling a fireball near the containers.
From that point, Zhalk needs to be around 50ish HP or less. You can also start moving everyone else away if you don't wanna sac them. Then just have Shadowheart cast Fire Bolt on the containers. If setup right, they'll all explode doing a MASSIVE amount of damage that likely kills the Mind Flayer too. So bonus XP.
Wow, that is an elaborate strategy. Thanks a lot. I will have to figure out how to swap in Command spell, but I will continue on my own from this point on :)
Its funny how you can comfortably play without figuring half the stuff. That's what I loved about Divinity Sins II. I found a new area in each reset.
No. Its min max jungly jungle with items, timing and rolls...
Reward is the sword.
Correct tactic is: take his sword, ignore him and run ...
