No, you change character when you want the m to maneuver or attack or pickpocket during dialogue. As of now the character that starts the dialogue is the one that does the talking unless special events.

Wrong, the one that gets to talk is the one closest to the trigger. Which is pure BS. Can't there be a check put in place for the player's character?

you don't necessarily want the main character to do the talking.

Ehhh I do for 99.99% of the conversations.

I do. If I wanted another character to do the talking I can easily control them to talk to whoever is needed. Why are there automatic ques fired for the closest character? It should always default to the player's character in those instances. If it is voluntary convo, well, then use whatever character you want.

Its super annoying when it happens because usually the others don't have charisma buffffs

so you cant change character mid conversation?

No. Whichever character hits the trigger gets the convo.

There is a setting that is included, but apparently does not work. Just like the rest of the settings on that page. Nothing gets saved. https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197996196788/screenshot/2035116698740591035/

None of those options affect which character is chosen for dialogue though.

Choosing a character for dialogue = walking into it first. Abuse quicksaving so you don't get the wrong character is basically my strategy.

I had to restart many fights and long explorations, just because they wanted to talk to my -1 charisma barbarian, instead of my diplomatic MC with lots of skills.

How would I be able to distract the guard while someone else picks the lock if they're all stuck in the same conversation?
Just no, bad idea. Very bad idea.

I tend to find that conversation gravitates to the highlighted character. I've only once had it trigger on someone I didn't expect. Most of the time it's my main, unless I'm looting, then it's Asterion. On a recent quest, I decided to have Karlach steer a boat and she was the one the npcs talked to when they approached. Maybe it just looks this way to me because the highlighted character also tends to be the one in the front of the pile when moving around.

I would love to have the option to have other characters also involve themselves in the dialog. Just like real life DnD, where the barbarian aggravates some noble, and the bard needs to smooth-talk him to prevent problems for the party.
And also because locking in the character due to a spacial trigger is just stupid.
