So this game is Ultima 7 meets BG2 meets DOS
So far that's the impression i'm getting. There's seems to be a lot of interactivity, quests appear to have several outcomes and choices (something Bioware hasn't done for a LONG time), and in general i'm getting a very old school vile.

The only caveat is that the writing is kinda of mid as well as a bit too anachronistic and modern for my tastes (Planescape: Torment this ain't, not even remotely close, but it IS somewhat close to the original BG1/2 which were also kind of silly and often contained mediocre or anachronistic writing, though not as much as this game seems to have). Also, the combat even on tactician so far is easy as pie.

Those are preliminary impressions will see what happens as i go further along.

On a technical level, i think the camera and controls are a complete mess, but i have no issue with the presentation. The visuals are a bit odd, perpetually grainy or fuzzy no matter the setting i use but they aren't unpleasant and i'm completely fine with the animations and quality voice acting. Sure there's better games out for this but i think they had to set some kind of limit just because of how much dialogue and animations they had to produce for this game, not just for the various quests you encounter but also for all the various options you don't get to see. In most modern games you only get a few outcomes so the amount of work they have to put into voicing and animating everything is a lot less than in a game like this.

I'd say more ultima VIII meet neverwinter nights 2 and DOS
Yeah i suppose NWN2 is a better comparison. They do certainly have a big common characteristic: the atrocious camera.

I'd say that's a fair and relatively accurate assessment.

The writing has its ups and downs, but feels good enough for my tastes for the most part. The visuals feel very impressive and must have been a ton of work. I've just started on Act 2 and the first bits have looked amazing so far.

I agree that textures can look grainy, unless you use DLAA. For some reason they remain grainy in the inventory window, even with DLAA enabled.

The camera does get stuck sometimes, it doesn't bother me that much tbh.

All things considered, and bearing in mind that I haven't played the full game yet, BG3 is the best RPG I've played in many years. If there's better contemporary cRPGs out there, I have yet to play them.
