Why they healed?
Act 1, I was going to fight the "paladins" with my new recruited one-horned girl. I knew they were bad guys, so I went stealth and surrounded them with my party. Then I set the hanging brazier on fire to make it fall. It dealt like 10 damages to the guy behind the desk, and then another 8 damages from the fire on the floor (both him and the other girl in the room).
The dice have been rolled to uncover my char from the stealth, and the combat begun... just to discover that both the enemies have been magically healed.

What's the point in giving the chance to make a strategy if it doesn't impact the fight at all? :|

Son while you were rolling die they took the time to call their bandageer. They got bandaged and the fight commenced. Nothing mysterious here

To stop the skyrim problem.

They didn't use any potion. They just healed at the start of the combat for no reason. It happened in the exact instant the combat begun, and it was my turn.

basically npcs will heal themselves if they get hurt from some source and if it doesn't trigger combat they will heal.

Recommend initiating combat and then doing the brazier trick.

That's a huge letdown. I mean I can understand this is made to prevent npc killing themselves because "reasons", but damn... it totally kills pre-emptive strategies.

Of course I can "try" to do the blazier trick after the combat starts, but then they will move away. That blaziers seems made specifically for that reason (it's in the middle of the room and they are in the middle of the room as well...).

Well, not a huge deal, I am just deluded.

just attack the female from the side room when she comes out for a breather - the archer will flank around the long way giving you time and space to focus down the 2 melees.

because once the main melee dude dies the fight is essentially done.

i tried this fight at level 3/4 and while its hard fight (the paladin dude hits like a TRUCK) its definitely do able with my setup: fighter-cleric-sorcercer-berserker

I noticed a lot of encounters like this in the game where enemies just auto heal if you try to get a surprise round on them. The witch does it too

I managed to end the fight in the same time I wrote the first post XD... I just wanted to try again to see if it was a bug or something similar.
They healed twice, and the only time I tried to shot the brazier DURING combat it just damaged the table (wtf) and not any of the enemies around it...

I was level 3 btw, had some issue with the guy bishotting my one-horned girl every single time but focusing on him with all the party did the trick.

Meh that's not good to hear. The only effective way to make a damage BEFORE starting the fight is, actually... starting the fight with it. In fact the last try I did I went stealth and dealt like 12 damages with one of my char, then the fight started and no one healed.

So I think that only enviromental damage is affected by this behaviour...
