Report a translation problem
Like I said, alt doesn't highlight the bookcases, you need to hover the mouse over the bookcases. They should be positioned at the walls of the library (if we're talking Library of the Silent here), like right against the outer walls of the chamber. If those don't exist then it might be some bug that requires reloading an older save, or reloading the area somehow, can't help much past that.
I don't think it's mandatory to finish the library, you might lose out on an optional path / item, but you should still be able to progress the main story? Haven't tried it myself so can't confirm tho.
Edit: it looks like this was caused by a corpse that was lying directly in front of the bookcase in question. My workaround was to load an earlier save and re-do the battle, minding not to kill an enemy in the wrong location. Hopefully this is corrected in a future bug fix?
