BG3 is very good game, but is far from perfect ,it have major design flaws.
Don't take me wrong , i do enjoy Baldur's Gate 3 . my rating for it is a solid 9.3 out of 10.
A must buy everyone , Definitively a contestant for Game of the year ,vs Starfield and Lords of the Fallen 2023. However the game is not perfect , it have major design flaws ,that breaks the immersion a little , but those mistakes are very few and still you can enjoy the game.

BAldurs Gate 3 most annoying thing is the Game Camera views . In the past about 20 years ago ,it made sense ,when games had to be done in lower performance PCs , or consoles ,since is more easier to control performance issues ,when the camera only renders characters from above and camera is far from the action. But today today in 2023 is inexcusable , that games are limited to an isometric top to down angle view and from distance. IF isometric views are so good , why all the cinematics are done in third person ,close to the face view ? That said this is the Reason why Baldur's gate 3 formula ,will never score a perfect 10 in my book , since today games and even a decade go ,can do RPG without the need to significantly limit camera view shots as bg3 Does.

IF people wants an example of games that LARIAN STUDIOS , COULD LEARN SOMETHING , how to improve their game ,specially in Camera views and so do in Game Combat look no further that the next games list.

1) Dragon Age Inquisition.
Excelent Camera views , Pretty Descent graphics , even better than baldurs gate 3 real gameplay graphics ( in BG3 only cinematics ,looks next gen , but as soon cinematics ends they use downgraded lower quality graphics for all Characters. Environments however appear to be close to how it looks in cinematics.

SO Dragon Age had far more consistency in graphics than BG3 and combat in DAI blows away of the water BG3 , and looks amazingly cooler ,specially with the mod released for free shortly after , by the developers , by the game developers for complete freedom in third person view . IT was not just a photo mode , but an in game camera freedom too. DAI did raised the bar in the RPG genre , way better than BG3 , Super amazing camera views ,fantastic combat system , spells and magic as great as BG3 and many other things that BG3 doesn't have and never done in games ever. For the only thing BG3 keeps me locked playing it , is for the Very good Story Telling cinematics and narrative system with consequences for every action and lots of variety of combat gameplay, But make no mistake , ISOMETRIC VIEWS AND TURN BASED Combat needs to GO , Games today have no excuse to limit the immersion in game so much ,as BG3's do it. The most elegant solution would be an RPG game that allows First Person , THird person and also allows old school isometric camera for old school RPG people .. Just like dragon Age inquisition allowed it. :steamhappy:

2) Witcher 3.. Have anybody forgotten about this game?
Witcher 3 = Baldurs GAte 3 done right. At least in Camera views and Cinematics RPG experience. Combat here however sloppy , but still was better than TURN BASED crap.
IF WITCHER 3 can do right the Camera views right , the RPG story telling with alternative choices and the exploration of an open world , then Baldurs Gate 3 could do it too.

3) TERA ONLINE.
Just wow , best Combat system ever made in the history of gaming , blows out of the war
Baldurs Gate 3 with real time manual targeting of enemies , it was a miracle what developers achieved there . CAmera views ? FIRST PERSON ,, Check.. THIRD PERSON check , Top to Down ? Check.. Full FREEDOM with the CAmera.. Why developers don't do this anymore? :steambored: The game story telling was not anywhere close to BG3 , but in Combat and in camera views blows everything there out of the water.

4)Mass Effect Games.... just like BG3 ,RPG games with different alternative endings and plenty of combat styles and way better camera than BG3 in a REAL TIME COMBAT.

5)Skyrim with Mods .. very solid RPG with way superior Camera views and Combat Freedom and true real time gameplay , not turn based bs crap. There is absolutely no justification for such outdated isometric camera views to be used unless is a very small developer studio and with very limited knowledge ,,and this is not the came of LARIAN STUDIOS , they are not ROCKSTART Hundreds of employees studio , but neither they are a small team like indie games.. There are games in STEAM pretty descent done by just 1 person ,souls like games THAT DO NOT LIMIT PEOPLE experience to an isometric camera view.

5)Most online RPG games got it right in camera views and combat camera and combat tactics ,like Lineage 2 ,AION .Tera online ,THrone and liberty and so on. Very good RPG , with pretty descent camera views and developers don't limit your experience to an incredibly annoying isometric view.

6)Metal gear solid 5 and MG Ground zeroes , Finally this ones are not exactly an RPG , is a linear story , but in terms of cinematics story telling , but in terms of narrative Story telling , they are superior in every way than Baldurs Gate 3 .. ie.. Is not mostly limited the story telling to just a dialogue NPC conversation face to face in same place. IF you look for example Ground Zeroes intro , how spectacular it was ,explaining the story and later during the game more Cinematics with action . LARIAN STUDIOS can learn a thing or two ,from Kojima productions in how to tell a Story. They lead the way by far in Narrative story telling in games , This is how RPGs narrative story should be done . In the same way than movies do it. Conversations face to face are ok , but for greater immersion it needs to be combined with action cinematics too. where characters are moving and running or even fighting.

for people that haven't seen Metal Gear Ground Zeroes Cinematics story telling.
Look the next video included . It shows how immersive games can be ,the narrative story telling cinematics ,when they are done by a Genius

https://youtu.be/3vfbCKDijxc

ALL things said , i can summarize.. that indeed BG3 is a very good game , but it can learn many thing from other games too , that have done much better than them.
To create a Perfect RPG , LARIAN STUDIOS needs ...

1) A real time Combat system and full freedom Camera system the way it was in Dragon Age inquisition or even better like it was on Tera Online .

2) In game cinematics/cutscenes not limited to just face to face conversation , but look how Kojima productions do it in their Games , same way is done in movies.

3)The end of turn based combat. There is no reason why they can't have it both ways ..
RPG games long time ago , are being done in real time combat.. Is far more challenging and more exciting. More tension and less predictable . In BG3 because is turn based ,you can do a quick face [F5] , take a turn and if you don't like it , quick load previous save [F8 ] . And correct any issue . This is super easy mode with no real consequences for taking bad decisions. :/

Man, of all games you can take, you took: The Witcher 3, a game with clunky combat and worse RPG mechanic; Dragon Age Inquisition, a boiled-down version of DAO; and MGS5, a game to be considered one of the worst MGS game storywise (and I played the ♥♥♥♥ out of the game).

I know what you mean, and let me tell you, you don't know what you want mate. There's already a game that tried real-time combat slap into CRPG, Pathfinders: WoTR, and good god that mode is terrible. Also call out Pillar of Eternity, the real-time combat that you want, get ready to press Space 7749 times because you're gonna pause the game a lot, like A LOT. At that point, they should already make a turn-based system from the get go.

I didn't read 90% of that wall of text, but the OP has a valid point: the camera in this game is horrendous. Larian should have to answer for this shaky game mechanic. Sure, this game is visually stunning and has a deep story, but after 4 years of development and production, one would think they would address this huge flaw.

Same with the horrible 'chain' mechanic.

Another veiled “waaah waaah I want Weal Time combat” thread.

RTwP was garbage back in the day and it’s garbage now. It doesn’t accurately reflect the complexity of party based rpg combat, it’s fiddly and annoying and a pain in the ass. It’s tension and “excitement” is artificial and comes mostly from the habit of companions to ignore given instructions or choose to do stuff that’s detrimental to what the player wants.
Encounter design is more basic and tends towards grind rather than narrative.

Screw RTwP. I’ve never played any cRPG that was better for it.

did you really compare BG3 to Witcher 3? Geralt moves so slow when he fights i dont know how he lasted for 3 whole games. I really dont understand the praises witcher 3 gets. it made for a very good interactive movie but not a very good GAME.

While Baldurs gate 3 is a very good GAME all the way around
