2. If you use Heavy Armor, DEX still factors into your initiative rolls, also some of the strongest spells rely on Dexterity saves (Fireball, Lightning Bolt)
3. Yes you can redistribute your Ability Points if you respec.
I think Withers can reassign your stat points but I haven't tested it out yet.
STR is the stat that determines your bonus to hit most the time in melee. Dex is for ranged.
Finesse weapons can use DEX instead STR to hit for melee
There are also some abilities for other classes where you can use other stats to modify to hit. Like charisma for the Warlock.
There is a slight misunderstanding here.
All weapons use Str modifier.
Finesse weapons use Str OR Dex modifier, whichever is higher.
If you wield a rapier and have a 14 Dex and 18 Str, you will get +4 to hit and dmg from your Str, and if you are a Barbarian you will still get your Rage bonus dmg.
I don't really need ranged bonuses because all three of my party members can cast firebolt and I have a rogue for archery and a wizard for wizardry and it feels weird being the party leader when I have a charisma penalty.
