How is Githyanki being the least popular race surprising? The fact that they are even playable is kind of a sore spot for me.

They are the ONLY race not from the PHB, and while I get that they are integral to the story, there are TONS of races that would have been much more appreciated. I will probably never play a Gith (aside of Lae'Zel) out of sheer SPITE.

Gith is probably among the 5 least popular races in all of D&D, so them being the only extra race to make it REALLY bothers me.

No Warforged makes sense; they're pretty specific setting wise. But not a SINGLE one of the giant descendant races made it? Firbolg has been around since 1e. And Goliath is my most played race.

Lack of Genasi severely limits customization.

Not one single beast race ostracizes an entire community.

Goblins and Bugbears are straight up in the game, but not playable.

Half orcs are playable, but as far as I know full blooded orcs don't even exist.

I'm not upset that Githyanki are playable, and I welcome any options we can have... But saying it's surprising that they are the least popular race WOULD straight up make me wonder if Larian even did any kind of research in the D&D community, if it werent for the fact that the game is so damn good.

I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed.

Keep up the good work but for the love of God give us races better than effing Gith.

It should be one of the more unique experiences, it's just not one people want the first time, they want generic first time through.

Yeah, I'm actually surprised they are surprised. I mean, the githyanki are basically fascists that fled from worse fascists.

It's actually kinda nice to see Lae'zel realize her empress is actually a hunger-power ♥♥♥♥♥ and doesn't give a ♥♥♥♥ about her people and how her whole base of their society "eliminate the weaklings to make us strong" is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to feed her power.

My first run is with origin character Laezel. I didn't even realize it was a gith until it told me; she looks so unlike how I remember them from ... what was it, 1e Unearthed Arcana where they were first portrayed? Her gith story sure is hokey (every other gith is a traitor what), but I'm invested in this playthrough and will see it done. Wouldn't call it a good writing for Gitgudyanki (thanks Huaquero, love it) or even a reasonable race to play, but she does alright as a vengeance paladin.

Ya know it's funny, I didn't even think about it because when I run games I let my group play whatever they want as a pc, and when I get to be a player, if I am restricted to phb I always play Dragonborn.

But it is a little strange now that you mention it.

I like playing master Gith race both in bg3 and in my dnd sessions. I like the feeling of superiority to other races. I'm so superior i became a nice Gith guy who is kind to everyone.
