Larian stated they're supposed Githyanki is the least popular race.
How is Githyanki being the least popular race surprising? The fact that they are even playable is kind of a sore spot for me.

They are the ONLY race not from the PHB, and while I get that they are integral to the story, there are TONS of races that would have been much more appreciated. I will probably never play a Gith (aside of Lae'Zel) out of sheer SPITE.

Gith is probably among the 5 least popular races in all of D&D, so them being the only extra race to make it REALLY bothers me.

No Warforged makes sense; they're pretty specific setting wise. But not a SINGLE one of the giant descendant races made it? Firbolg has been around since 1e. And Goliath is my most played race.

Lack of Genasi severely limits customization.

Not one single beast race ostracizes an entire community.

Goblins and Bugbears are straight up in the game, but not playable.

Half orcs are playable, but as far as I know full blooded orcs don't even exist.

I'm not upset that Githyanki are playable, and I welcome any options we can have... But saying it's surprising that they are the least popular race WOULD straight up make me wonder if Larian even did any kind of research in the D&D community, if it werent for the fact that the game is so damn good.

I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed.

Keep up the good work but for the love of God give us races better than effing Gith.

Edit: Man this thread went from a joke (Gith really aren't THAT bad, man) to a lot of angy people REAL fast.

Nothing wrong with having a niche pick.
The Gith are really cool, though I kinda wish you could pick whether you're Githyanki or Githzerai, the latter having additional friction with Lae'Zel.

Dealing with Githyanki the first time: "I'm sure there's some good in them, surely they..."
Several Githyanki related atrocities experienced later:
"The Imperium of Man had a point..."

I'd rather play a Goblin than a Gith XD

+1 for Githzerai

As much as I planned to play a Githyanki, I couldn't come past the character editor so far when building one :steamsad: It just doesn't "click" - I'd need some pseudo gear to check the visuals with different armors *sigh*

Their racials could be appealing on certain characters. The only problem is you have to make your character look like Willem DaFoe.

Also what community is "ostracized" by not including beast races?

Githyanki are kinda connected to the plot though?

Honestly not as a first playthrough but I'm really interested in one for a later playthrough:

Interactions with Lae'zel?

Talking to all the Githyanki

Everyone else reacting to you

It should be one of the more unique experiences, it's just not one people want the first time, they want generic first time through.
They're really cool thematically. Let's not pretend that's what's going on here. An interplanar travelling slave psionic race that broke free of their slavemasters is extremely compelling as a race concept.

They're just really weak and hideous looking in the case of the males, and most people are going to play something they identify with or not hence Gale vs. male gith numbers.

The devs realized this I think, because as you find in many games, the worst models get some of the best mechanical powers and medium armor prof by default and their jump is pretty good in the realm of (albeit meager) 5e race powers.

I don't play female characters but I'm enough of a freak to be attracted to hardfrogbody tomboy Lazi'iel (goblinish, after all) so I don't think the girls have it too bad when it comes to gith.

The male gith with the current model I might play one for about 10 minutes if I could equip him with a box of marijuana crisps and a red dragon named Scoob maybe. But not as a character I really want to invest 100s of hours of playtime into. They could have at least given him the bulkier body type.

I could care less about Furrybolgs, Warforged are interesting but as you say not FR material. Gensai I agree, but they have a very specific setting there that gith certainly belong in as the slaves of the illithid. I'm just really happy Drow and Dueregar made it in myself. I am a simple elf.

Furries. 🤷

Rather you like em or not doesn't make the statement incorrect. I know lots of people who are really disappointed by the lack of Tabaxi.

Though if I was gonna play a beast race I'd rather be a Kenkj just for how unique/weird their lore is.

I'll never play a gith other than Lae'Zel but mostly because Larian made the insane decision to not give custom gith characters actual gith armors, like wtf? Also making them pretty much completely unavailable until chapter 2 and even then you have to kill a gith to get the armor from what I can see so until then you gotta just run around as a gith wearing human armor. Whats that about

Yeah, that's disappointing as well. Even a weaker gith leather armor variant would suffice IMHO.

So why aren't steam users playing Gith again?

It's okay. I'm also a monster ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and think Lae'Zel is kinda hot. It's her personality that makes me refuse to touch her. 🤣

I love Gith, the problem is you have a Laezel, so making really a gith warrior seems kinda pointless for a lot of us.

No they aren't. They can play a druid.
