Doesn't really matter unless you're powergaming/minmaxing, at which point you wouldn't be playing a pure Paladin since they're pretty bad singleclassed.

For raw melee damage Half Orc is the best, for caster pick a Dragon color that fits your primary damage spell.

All short races are cringe, no one plays them. Imagine a gnome paladin and try to keep a straight face, it was laughable in WoW, it's even more laughable here in D&D. Half-orc paladin is nonsense, literally monkey with a grenade. Dragonborn is whatever, snowflake race, they are out of place. Tieflings are hellspawns and there is no evil paladin subclasses in this game. Oathbreaker doesn't count, to become an Oathbreaker you need to be a paladin in the first place and then betray your oath. So the choice is between human, elf or half-elf. I played as human paladin.
