Portrait darkened
Is there a reason my portrait has turned dark? I don't see that there is a debuff or anything on me. Just 1 of 4 portraits are dark. Am I missing something?

... hate to ask but is one of your characters dead? Not downed... but actually full on dead ? (there should be a skull near it's character portrait)

Happens sometimes when you lvl up. I always reloaded and did it again and it worked fine the second time. Only happened to me with Karlach.

I did just level up to 3 right after i posted this and it went back to normal. Bug maybe?

None of my characters were dead.

I've had this bug with Asterion before.

For no reason the last portrait goes black. It doesn't matter what character is in that slot. Also it's tied to your save game. If you go back to a earlier save, everything's fine. It has just happened again in my on going game.
I read someone saying that it's to do with the latest Geforce driver, but I have no evidence that this is true apart from it only starting when I updated my Geforce drivers, but there was also a game update around the same time. I am reluctant to roll back my drivers.

I think it's part of the game's several issues with HDR

I was also getting darkened portraits on level up until I reset my in-game HDR calibration to default levels, and then "reset" portraits during level up by trying to multiclass and then cancelling the multiclass

I think what is happening is that the game generates portraits using an renderer whenever your character levels up, and how they render it is malfunctioning when it tries to account for HDR calibration

Don't think it has anything to do with the latest GeForce drivers as I was getting this issue on launch day with the previous drivers

I also have this on my main character. Looks grayed out. Kinda suspected i was a vampire , but no debuffs.

Yeah, likely HDR related. If you notice, your entire screenshot is darkened. Probably because you're using Windows' standard screen capture capabilities. To actually capture screenshots of games running with HDR, you'll need to use the Xbox game bar (Winkey G)

Anyway, my guess is that the game also uses standard methods of capturing portraits that they render and it doesn't properly account for HDR settings

I'm not using HDR and it's still happening in my game. It pretty much always happens as soon as I get a fourth party member for some reason.

Edit: Only happens once I level them up. Definitely something wrong with the portrait creation function, but hard to say what.

I'm not using HDR either. I did correctly set the gamma in the beginning per the instructions.
Try the workaround I mentioned anyway (go into multiclass and cancel). It has fixed the portraits on mine

A "fix" is switching from Vulkan to DX11 (or the other way around?) and then level up the character. Then switch back. Needs to be done for every level up or it goes dark again. If you have already saved with the dark portrait, you have to wait for the next level up.

Thx a lot. Before DX11 I tried 10 times on the Vulkan.
My final portrait was created using underwear instead of standard armor. xD
