Wait for mods. If larian had plans they would have done it already, they just have to change 2 variables to unlock full customization of hirelings.

This ain't Baldurs Gate like the old games were. It's a softcore forgiveness experience where you forget all the bs Hasbro has done because they hiding behind Larian. This is vicarious sex party fun times. if you can't love it for what it is, mods will help for what it isn't later.

The work around for creating a full custom party still works.
I googled it a few hours ago as I wanted to do a 4x Gloom stalker setup with 1 of them being dark urge.

Go to steam/steamapps/common/BaldursGate3/bin

Create a shortcut of either BG3 (which is Vulkan) or Bg3_dx11 (which is Dx11 ... duh..)

Put it on your desktop

Shut down steam entirely. <- This is the new step we need to take since 1.0.

Boot up via the shortcut.

Create a LAN campaign.

Open up 3 more clients with the same shortcut.

Join your own LAN campaign.

Create characters and hit ready on all clients.

Wait for the loading screen to finish.

Save on the host client.

Exit all clients.

Boot up steam again and BG3 through steam.

Load campaign.

done. new campaign with 4 custom characters.

If your PC is low spec and can't handle 4 clients, reduce graphic settings during the character creation and remember to set MAX background FPS to 5 or less.

The issue with that is than it becomes a pain real fast each time you want to switch to origin companions to do their quests and then go back to a custom.

Larian did not develop an RPG, they developed origin stories with player participation.

The game would be dull AF if they let you do custom party. They modeled it after Mass Effect, but really don't have the talent to write a compelling story to tie everything together.

If there was a custom party, there would be 0 interactivity with the members, and the content would go bye bye. As would the metacritic ratings.

You:d have Solasta style companions and no reason to go anywhere, because PC is just a moron spectator who is bossed around by companions to go places and do things - like laezel pushing for a visit to the creche.

Without her it makes 0 sense to show up there, and yet the story has key elements spinning off from that.

Not gonna happen in any satisfying way - play Solasta

They haven't.

I'm playing in a custom party right now and while slightly buggy they have word reactivity...when they cross x or y like your origin piles of horny.

I have a hard time seeing how - the companion content missing - there is anything going on. The creche story with Vlaakith and the Guardian, Elminster showing up for Gale, Shadowhart revealing her past in cutscenes, etc...

You'd only get NPC reactions and the odd environmental comment...

It should be really empty compared to origin chars being present

Weird way to say an rpg, with character creation, would suck with more of it. You might not understand why someone would want to create their whole party in an rpg that has character creation and parties, but it's a very in demand feature for this game. Why not...just be happy the features not there and ignore posts about it? You know YOUR preferred experience will always be preserved. Some gamers wanna game, see builds and parties that achieve numbers and checks in different ways a default single created character experience will absolutely NOT get with it's quite vanilla retinue.

Also such a verbose character creation system and....one character per game only? Sorry I like more of a well done feature. Get my money's worth etc.

Elminster still shows up, only he appears directly in your camp when you pass that point. You can also just, go for 3 custom and 1 slot for the origin charactwrs if you desire, I already experienced their quests and after the ending I rather not again, left a bad taste on my mouth.

Asterions hunter also shows up in the map and will hunt him down.

It's a fair demand, and if the story was centered around PC it would be great. But again - they've modeled it after Mass Effect - and the main story experience IS the origin chars story to a large extent. I'm saying it's unlikely Larian will give us a full party experience, because they structured their content in such a way that it would make it bland.

Hence, I predict they won't do it, it might be an option a couple months down the line when reviewers no longer look at it - but it's just as unlikely as it was for DoS, I think.

i'm curious as to how you could come up with four compelling characters in creation
Belegar Aug 12, 2023 @ 12:52am
I am playing with 2 custom companions right now and it's really fun! The origin characters in BG3 are generally very bad and unlikeable so it's a relief not having to listen to them.

You know - honestly with all the continuity errors and nonsensical disjointed origin story 'integrations' - not having it around all the time might be a better experience...

For example: I had Laezel and Shadowhart try to kill each other over the artifact, which was in my possession for a while at the time, and we've all had entered it to visit the guardian already. That cutscene would have made some sense before it was clearer what this thing is - after Vlaakith and the visit to the Guardian it should be a non-issue. And yet those two murderhobos started to kill each other over this thing...
