I googled it a few hours ago as I wanted to do a 4x Gloom stalker setup with 1 of them being dark urge.
Go to steam/steamapps/common/BaldursGate3/bin
Create a shortcut of either BG3 (which is Vulkan) or Bg3_dx11 (which is Dx11 ... duh..)
Put it on your desktop
Shut down steam entirely. <- This is the new step we need to take since 1.0.
Boot up via the shortcut.
Create a LAN campaign.
Open up 3 more clients with the same shortcut.
Join your own LAN campaign.
Create characters and hit ready on all clients.
Wait for the loading screen to finish.
Save on the host client.
Exit all clients.
Boot up steam again and BG3 through steam.
Load campaign.
done. new campaign with 4 custom characters.
If your PC is low spec and can't handle 4 clients, reduce graphic settings during the character creation and remember to set MAX background FPS to 5 or less.
The game would be dull AF if they let you do custom party. They modeled it after Mass Effect, but really don't have the talent to write a compelling story to tie everything together.
If there was a custom party, there would be 0 interactivity with the members, and the content would go bye bye. As would the metacritic ratings.
You:d have Solasta style companions and no reason to go anywhere, because PC is just a moron spectator who is bossed around by companions to go places and do things - like laezel pushing for a visit to the creche.
Without her it makes 0 sense to show up there, and yet the story has key elements spinning off from that.
Not gonna happen in any satisfying way - play Solasta
You'd only get NPC reactions and the odd environmental comment...
It should be really empty compared to origin chars being present
Asterions hunter also shows up in the map and will hunt him down.
It's a fair demand, and if the story was centered around PC it would be great. But again - they've modeled it after Mass Effect - and the main story experience IS the origin chars story to a large extent. I'm saying it's unlikely Larian will give us a full party experience, because they structured their content in such a way that it would make it bland.
Hence, I predict they won't do it, it might be an option a couple months down the line when reviewers no longer look at it - but it's just as unlikely as it was for DoS, I think.
For example: I had Laezel and Shadowhart try to kill each other over the artifact, which was in my possession for a while at the time, and we've all had entered it to visit the guardian already. That cutscene would have made some sense before it was clearer what this thing is - after Vlaakith and the visit to the Guardian it should be a non-issue. And yet those two murderhobos started to kill each other over this thing...
