Review & Thoughts ... too slow?
Below is a steam review I posted. Maybe I am missing something and there are tricks to speed some of these things up. Pls let me know. Thoughts?

Don’t get me wrong, please. The game is excellent. In many aspects and I am enjoying it. But it is also unnecessary slow. And therefore not for everyone.

I am ok with the turn-based, strategic combat, no issue here. I suspect the 4-party limit (instead of the original 6 in BG1, BG2) is partly due to speed up the encounters. If you tried X-COM, Jagged Alliance type of games and 'just cant do it', BG3 is probably not for you.

However (!), here is my issue with the 'slowness'. The looting, inventory management and selling is artificially, unnecessary slow. We needs something like “loot everything in 20m”, “Mark items for sale with a single key on mouse over” and probably less junk items in general.

Also, the long-rest/ short-rest mechanics for preparing spells are slowing down the game unnecessarily. There is sufficient camp food anyway - at least on “balance” difficulty. So, the constant forward and back between camp and world is a waste. A single “refresh all” click would do the trick here (on balanced).

The character selection during conversations seem off. Sometimes the avatar/ main character is forced into the conversation. Otherwise the selected character. Ofc it is unknown what skills/ ability check will come up in the conversation, so it is basically a gamble. Maybe (!?) considering the the entire party / best match for each skill check would make more sense?!

I hope we will see some QoL improvements. Otherwise it is pretty awesome ;)
Cheers.

I’m finding it difficult to get into because of how slow it is.

control + click and shift + click are your friends

mark everything as wares and sell it all in one click at the vendor, easy

as for looting? yeah that's always gonna be slow if you're going through every container

My tip on looting is to not worry about looting everything. View it more as Skyrim - you can pick up all the forks and dishes, but you don't need to and it's probably not going to be fun if you do (unless you like it, in which case go for it).

Important loot is 99% in chests or on enemies.

There is a way to mark items to mass sell, though it's kinda slow - it's best to just not pick up too much junk.

Resting shouldn't be happening a ton, it's meant as a break in the pace to talk to companions and whatnot every 5 fights or something I'd estimate.

Inventory management in general needs improvement; like the "wares" thing Angel mentions above; not sure that is really explained anywhere as an option.

You're saying that the game sucks

The long rest is there to progress the story, though. You get many conversations and cutscenes during the evening and night.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
